Kern County Museum Founded in 1941, the Kern County Museum provides interpretive experiences through historical objects

The museum provides a meaningful learning environment for visitors of all ages and showcases the unique importance of the region in shaping the history of California and the nation. The Museum has been collecting pieces of Kern County history since 1929. Thousands of historical and cultural artifacts are displayed in more than 60 historic buildings on 16 beautifully landscaped acres. Treasures suc

h as a one room school, a general store, jail, oil derrick, and seven historic homes join Native American, Bakersfield Sound, mining, agriculture and railroad exhibits. From California’s Gold Rush, through its settlement and development, to the crucial oil industry of today, the state’s rich heritage can be experienced in one convenient and central location.

The Kern County Museum will be closed to the public this Saturday, May 30th as we are proud to host the Bakersfield Ronald McDonald House Charities 2026 Walk for Kids.

"Legends of Driller Football" - Kern Union High in the 1920’s with Ken Hooper

Kern Union High School dominated high school football in California in the 1920’s, winning six state titles and 10 section titles in 10 years. Historian and BHS archivist Ken Hooper will tell the story of legendary coach Goldie Griffiths and give highlights of the players and games.
