Surprised to learn Poe was in the military at all? 🪖Well, it wasn't just him! His grandfather, David Poe, Sr. (1742-1816 was the Assistant Deputy Quartermaster General for Baltimore during the American Revolution. 🐦‍⬛
We can't know exactly why he enlisted under this alias, but it be connected to the negativity attitude towards post-revolutionary soldiers. Poe may not have wanted to be associated with his grandfather and changed his name in an attempt to experience life as a common man and burn bridges to his merchant-class upbringing. 🔮🐈‍⬛
Of course, he did go back to the name Poe after his time in the military and signed his writings with the surname.💀

The Pale Blue Eye 👁️ is a fictional story of Edgar Allan Poe's time at West Point where he helps investigate the murder of a fellow cadet. While this movie did cause some stirring with the liberties it takes with Poe's time at West Point, we enjoy it as a suspenseful, fun and fanciful fan fiction of Poe. ☠️🐦‍⬛
