Bringing Petersen to Life: Umbrellas are a recurring motif in Petersen’s iconic picnic series, In preparation for our upcoming exhibition the Studio Shop team spent the day hand-painting parasols inspired by Petersen’s vibrant color palette.

A sweeping retrospective honoring the celebrated Bay Area Figurative artist’s centennial year.
The exhibition spans eight decades of artistic evolution, from his early 1950s abstractions to a new painting completed in 2026. Featuring works from each defining period, the show traces his enduring exploration of color, figure, and light.

Day 3 at Art Miami has been an exciting one for Studio Shop Gallery 🎉

stopped by our booth, and seeing him take in his own painting while visitors gathered around became one of those rare moments that capture the energy of the fair.

We’re also celebrating that Serving Dessert with 14 figures, a diptych by Roland Petersen that we’ve long admired, found its forever home today. A wonderful match for a remarkable piece.
