Witness how soulful art was once powered by the soles of the artist’s shoes at the first of 4 weekly Americana on Main events in the Carmel Arts & Design District. Woodworker Jim Dupler, Indianapolis, will demonstrate how the nation’s early settlers turned blocks of wood into spindles, bowls, and other furnishings using a treadle lathe. His reproduction lathe is completely foot powered and safe enough for all ages to try their hand — make that foot — using it.

📍 Indiana Artisan Gifts & Gallery, 20 B, Rangeline Road, Carmel
⏰ June 11, 4-7 p.m.
🎟️ Free & open to the public

Fun themes will make each week’s Americana on Main celebration a new adventure throughout the Arts District, and Artisan-led events planned at Indiana Artisan Gifts & Gallery will center on traditional arts and honor the semiquincentennial:
• Kick-Off Celebration, June 11, Turning Wood on a Treadle Lathe
• Family Fun Night, June 18
• Ice Cream Social, June 25, Broom Making with artisan Bev Larson
• Americana Farmer’s Market, July 2, acrylic painting, artist Craig Mullins

Be sure to browse the shop, too, where there are other traditional arts, paintings, pottery pieces, fiber art and glass work made to honor America’s birthday. Visit Hamilton County, Indiana Experience Carmel

Invite friends and family to a one-of-a-kind demonstration with Jim Brune during Art in Flight, a 2nd SaturDate event at Indiana Artisan Gifts & Gallery. Jim will paint using watercolors to create hyper-realistic scenes on wood. Art in Flight also offers the opportunity to be among the first to see a remarkable piece he did to honor the nation’s semiquincentennial. This painting—rendered on a nearly 40" black walnut slab—features a bald eagle soaring gracefully over Montana’s Lake Como with the Bitterroot National Forest in the background. "In my opinion," says Jim, "it doesn’t get more Americana than this.” Join Jim anytime from 1-5 p.m. June 13 at Indiana Artisan, 20 N. Rangeline Road in the Carmel Arts & Design District. Come when it’s convenient; stay as long as you like.

We are sorry to say our dear Carmel neighbor, Goodness Gracious, had a terrible fire today. Thankfully, no one was injured. Because smoke filtered into our store through the adjoining basement, we will be closed until a restoration company can clear out the bad air. Please keep the restaurant owners and staff in your thoughts, as will we.
