ON THIS DATE — We commemorate 108 years since the founding of independent Czechoslovakia. Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, seated in the "Rising Sun" chair in Independence Hall, Philadelphia — the same chair from which George Washington presided over the U.S. Constitutional Convention — signed the Declaration of Common Aims in 1918. Masaryk, the first president of Czechoslovakia, was joined by representatives from numerous countries.
