This Father's Day, we celebrate an incredible artist, father, curator, and storyteller.

The 109 Gallery is honored to welcome Adam Romano as part of Life / Death, a collaborative exhibition with Kaleb Knowles opening June 27 at 6 PM.

Adam's paintings explore transformation, mortality, and the tension between beauty and decay. Drawing upon symbolism, gothic imagery, and the human figure, his work creates visual experiences that feel both intimate and universal.

Painting allows Romano to confront the inevitability of death while honoring the persistence of life. Each work becomes a meditation on presence, memory, and the passage of time, inviting viewers to slow down, reflect, and consider the fragile and extraordinary nature of being alive.

Join us for the opening reception of Life / Death featuring paintings by Adam Romano and Kaleb Knowles, live poetry readings by Erika Dionne Roberts and Kelly Williams, and remarks from the artists.

Artist Spotlight: Kaleb Knowles

Veteran, educator, community leader, and painter, Kaleb Knowles creates work that invites viewers beyond the visible world and into spaces of imagination, reflection, and possibility. After a traumatic brain injury during military service led him to art therapy, painting became not only a means of recovery, but a lifelong practice of transformation.

Known for his expressive landscapes, florals, and ethereal dreamscapes, Knowles uses color, atmosphere, and movement to create what he describes as gateways into another dimension, places where resilience, healing, and wonder can take shape. His work reflects a belief that creativity has the power to help us rebuild, reimagine, and move forward.

Join us as we celebrate Life / Death, a powerful dialogue between the work of Kaleb Knowles and Adam Romano.

Tonight you are invited for the final view party of Rick Sanders' solo exhibition before the work comes down and a new chapter begins at The 109 Gallery. Complimentary Refreshments, 6pm-9pm at The 109 Gallery. Artist remarks, and special pricing on select paintings up to 50% off.

Over the past month, visitors have spent time with these paintings in conversation, contemplation, and wonder. Many have returned more than once, finding new meanings hidden within the layers of color, texture, memory, and imagination.
