Some selected photos of our 8th Massachusetts Revolutionary War unit from Saturday at Feast of the Strawberry Moon. We also Incorporated the militiamen from the Swordsmanship Museum and Academy Colonial Swordsmanship Camp into our ranks.

We'll make a separate post about Sunday since our role was much different.

This weekend, come see our soldiers represent the 8th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment as part of the American army at the Feast of the Strawberry Moon Hosted by WMHA!

We recently led an educational day at a local elementary school, for the 4th and 5th graders got to learn firsthand about Revolutionary War battles and soldiers' lives in a fun and exciting way!
We set up three stations where the students would learn about: military drill, swords and swordsmanship, and fi****ms, and the classes all rotated and got a chance to learn from all of the stations! What a successful educational day!

With the great reenactment at Fort Meigs over, we put down our 1812 uniforms for the year and pick up our Revolutionary War coats! We have some great events coming up, starting with the Feast of the Strawberry Moon Hosted by WMHA! Be sure to come visit our 8th Massachusetts camp and learn the unexpected connection to Michigan history! (As well as cheer is on during the battle!) Event is June 13 & 14!

We got to be part of a unique battlefield tactic at Fort Meigs: Ohio's War of 1812 Battlefield, where the Battalion of US regulars formed an assault column! This Napoleonic style formation would have charged through and broken the enemy line of battle... If we got a chance to use it. Instead we just used it as a quick way to charge to the front before deploying in our own battle line. But it was still pretty cool! Props to the battalion commander for utilizing it.

A Rum Ration! In the early 1800's, one of the "benefits" of joining the army was a daily ration of rum or other liquor, given to each man in the quantity of one "Gill", which is about 4 ounces. The soldiers had to finish their ration immediately, showing the officers that it is consumed right then and there and not being saved for later! We recreate this bit of military history at our relevant events, like our War of 1812 reenactments, with our friendly units after hours! (Exclusively for historical recreation, of course!!!!)
