It appears that we are currently the target of.... "Brigading" 😜 a mass cyber-bullying attempt. Welcome to everyone who found us through this attempt 🤗

We will continue to be as welcoming, supportive, and encouraging of educational history and interactive education as we can. Reenacting, and participation in large reenactment events, is a fun side aspect of what we do. We focus more on experiential history at events through interactive education. If you find this interesting, and a refreshing break from the aggressive bullying culture you find yourself in, then welcome, friend!

If anyone is curious, lots of the information being paraded is outdated or incorrect. No we don't charge classes for reenacting information (we now welcome anyone who is interested, no charge at all, plus providing all the equipment as well), no we don't encourage fedoras on our Civil War unit (one photo had one prominently displayed, unfortunately reverting to it's original shape during a hot event after having previously rounded it into a more appropriate shape. That item is now retired), and no we don't claim to be 100% authentic, never have and never will (we do work to better represent the important aspects of the history we teach through higher quality replicas, and individual members are welcome to pursue authenticity in their kit beyond our standards).

We are slowly working to improve our impression! Folks who came to the Van Raalte Farm Civil War Muster the this weekend may notice a more uniform hat with black squirrel tails and the famous "Jeff Davis Eagle" style hat pin, more popularly recognized on the Hardee style hats of the war, rather than the unusual gray Sugarloaf style that many companies of the Western Sharpshooters were issued in the early part of the war, which is what we are representing here. Plenty more to improve upon, and we are hoping to represent this historical unit even more thoroughly by next year.

Introducing our third company to be active this weekend at the Van Raalte Farm Civil War Muster: the "Michigan Boys", Company D of the 66th Illinois Western Sharpshooters. This early war impression has a unique uniform inspired by the fur trade that was active in the Old Northwest during the time of its recruitment. This is the only event where we bring out this impression each year, and it changes and improves every year. Come on out and see what new fascinating pieces of Western Sharpshooter history we can bring to the table.

We are educators first and foremost! The event this weekend at the Plainfield Grand Rogue Historical Society allowed us the opportunity to do what we love most: interactive education with community members! The crowds were so engaged and curious both Saturday and Sunday and it was a pleasure to share our visit with them at this great event.
