We got to be part of a unique battlefield tactic at Fort Meigs: Ohio's War of 1812 Battlefield, where the Battalion of US regulars formed an assault column! This Napoleonic style formation would have charged through and broken the enemy line of battle... If we got a chance to use it. Instead we just used it as a quick way to charge to the front before deploying in our own battle line. But it was still pretty cool! Props to the battalion commander for utilizing it.

A Rum Ration! In the early 1800's, one of the "benefits" of joining the army was a daily ration of rum or other liquor, given to each man in the quantity of one "Gill", which is about 4 ounces. The soldiers had to finish their ration immediately, showing the officers that it is consumed right then and there and not being saved for later! We recreate this bit of military history at our relevant events, like our War of 1812 reenactments, with our friendly units after hours! (Exclusively for historical recreation, of course!!!!)

A special thanks to our friends at Bier Distillery & Brewery for helping bring this bit of history to life, and providing other unique historical drinks such as the1 vinegar-based Switchel to give us energy throughout the day!

The 2026 Grand Tactical event at Fort Meigs: Ohio's War of 1812 Battlefield is now over, and what an amazing time it was for us and our friends at LaCroix's Company Living History Organization. Our two groups fused together to create one massive reenactment unit that often had to split into two platoons.

Michigan and her War of 1812 history was well represented this weekend! Great job to everyone involved!

Soldiers in the Revolutionary War would often fight in companies of three men deep: a front, middle, and rear rank. Some of our reenactors are demonstrating how this would happen without risk of hitting a soldier in front of you. While it's more complicated than the following, simply put the front rank would kneel, the middle rank would stand tall, and the rear rank would take a step to the right.

Thank you, Captain Nate!!!!
We have to point out how much help and generosity has been given to us by our friend Nate, who traveled from his home on the east side of Michigan all the way to Ludington on Saturday to help train our 84th Highlander group (9 total), then down to Grand Rapids for a War of 1812 Training Day on Sunday (13 total), before returning home again! Your guidance and knowledge has given our groups a significant head start!
