The Hance-Alexander House, originally two structures dating back to the early 1800s, was purchased by the New River Historical Society in the 1980s and transformed into the current Wilderness Road Regional Museum. The museum now houses exte

nsive archives, family research, and library, and features permanent displays such as the recreated 19th century country store as well as temporary displays on topics such as fashion, women's handiwork, and the area now covered by Claytor Lake. We also offer tours of outbuildings on the grounds (kitchen, granary, loom house, barn, and buggy shed).

We hope all the cyclists from yesterday's Wilderness Road Ride have dried out and warmed up. That was a dedicated group and as always we love welcoming all cyclists to the Wilderness Road/Bike 76 Route and expect to see many more during the 250th.

We had a lovely house concert this evening with Geoff the Fiddler. Good Scots-Irish influenced Appalachian tunes such as "Sals Got Mud Between Her Toes", "Shove the Pig's Foot a Little Further in the Fire", "Shenandoah", "Bonaparte's Retreat" along with "Rocky Road to Dublin", "Galloway", "Old 1812", and many others filled up the Do-Better Cottage on this dreary evening similar to the weather of the Scottish Highlands. It does an Appalachian heart good to enjoy a fine jig or reel on a Saturday night. Thanks to all that came out to learn about and enjoy the music.

Join us at 6pm at the Do-Better Cottage for a cozy cottage concert. Donations accepted and seating is limited.

Join us for the Annual Loyalists in the Backcountry Weekend. June 6-7th, Saturday enjoy museum tours and living history, and on Sunday join in as we learn more about the Loyalists in the area during the Revolutionary War, help us find the counterfeiters and then assist as we round those Peak Creek Tories up and put them in the pillories. This event is a lighthearted presentation of some rather serious history that took place 250 years ago. The weekend is free to attend and family friendly, donations will go towards our active education outreach programs. 11am-4pm both days.

Please save the date for the Annual Pulaski Juneteenth Celebration, hosted this year at Wilderness Road Regional Museum. We always co-host this event with the Calfee Community and Cultural Center. Which will once again happen but on a slightly smaller scale due to their Annual Gala occurring the day prior that will take up a lot of the volunteer manpower it takes to host events. We will be posting more updates as we get closer on all the activities being planned.

We love our wagonloads of visitors! Thanks Blacksburg Christian for brightening up our rainy Thursday.
