Calling on local artists

Glencoe Mansion Gallery will host a multi-artist juried art show, “Homecoming,” in conjunction with its annual Mary Draper Ingles Festival (July 24-26). Participating artists will have the opportunity to compete for cash prizes, including a $75 best in show. Works will be judged by Steve Arbury, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of Art History at Radford University. Selected artwork will be on display July 15 - August 28, 2026.

“Homecoming” is an exhibit that showcases the meaning of home, especially as it relates to Mary Draper Ingles’ 40-plus-day journey home. The theme can explore the importance of home and one’s sense of place. Tying into Mary Draper Ingles’ journey, works can show native agriculture or geological locations along the route, significant landmarks and more. All fine arts and fine craft media including painting, photography, digital media, printmaking, textiles, mixed media, ceramics and sculpture will be considered. Artists may submit up to three (3) artworks for consideration.

Applications will be accepted through 5pm on June 17. Participation, which is subject to acceptance, is open to artists in and around the NRV area. Individuals under the age of 18 must have approval of application from a legal guardian. Two-dimensional work needs to be ready to hang using gallery wire. Artists are encouraged to have their work for sale; Glencoe Mansion Gallery collects a 25% commission on sales.

“Homecoming” will be on display July 15 - August 28 in the Glencoe Mansion Gallery. The Opening Reception, during which prizes will be announced, will take place on Friday July 24, from 5:30-7pm at Glencoe Mansion as part of the Mary Draper Ingles Festival.

Entry forms for “Homecoming” can be found online at GlencoeMansion.org or by contacting [email protected]. More information on the Mary Draper Ingles Festival can be found at GlencoeMansion.org or by finding “Mary Draper Ingles Festival” on Facebook.

On May 16 we were very fortunate to have a day of service from Troop 46 of the Scouts, BSA. These Scouts and their families have dedicated a lot of time and effort over the years to help develop the Mary Draper Ingles Cultural Heritage Park.

This year they helped pick up loose sticks, pull weeds and haul gravel to fill in our rail trail. They achieved so much, and we are so grateful for their work. During their day of service the Scouts also had a lesson from Clyde Kessler on the birds who call the park home.

Thank you to the Scouts, their friends and family, Nick Lancaster (City Horticulturist), Clyde Kessler, Eve Yagel, and Annyce Levy.

Together we can achieve great things!

Now open!

“Palette and Prism,” featuring the works of artist LaDonna Sepers is on display at Glencoe Mansion now through June 25, 2026.

The name of Sepers’ show, “Palette and Prism,” have images that have these words merge with one another to describe how the artist expresses her perceptions of the world around her. The world presents itself through the prism of color and light together. LaDonna discovers that expressive light most often being in the eyes, both human and animal. Her subjects are living and breathing, experiencing a moment in life. A moment that is meaningful to them and she celebrates that meaning with color choices that speak to her, joyfully dancing with light.

LaDonna Sepers studied art at the University of Wisconsin, pursuing graphic arts to render thoughts and dreams into color and shapes to inspire others. The next stage of her life did not allow forays into fantasy, but eventually she gave into the call of her first love. LaDonna began to explore the joys of using color in bolder expressions in oil, watercolor, and recently heavy body acrylics. The artist remains captivated by thecountless shapes and colors of faces—both human and animal and sharing moments in time with them. LaDonna currently lives and paints in Radford, Virginia.
