M. Lamar, renowned for his work across the genres of opera and metal, performance, video, sculpture, and installation, will debut 𝘼𝙐𝙍𝘼 𝙀𝙓𝙏𝙍𝘼𝘾𝙏𝙄𝙊𝙉, a newly commissioned performance, at the Art Omi Summer Opening on Saturday, June 27 from 3–6 PM, in dialogue with “𝘏𝘢𝘶𝘯𝘵”: 𝘉𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘍𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘖𝘯𝘦 𝘝𝘪𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺𝘢 𝘚𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘳𝘦 (2026).

Lamar holds a BFA from The San Francisco Art Institute and attended the Yale School of Art, sculpture program, before dropping out to pursue music. Lamar’s work has been presented internationally, most recently at The Metropolitan Museum of Art Flight Into Egypt: Black Artists and Ancient Egypt, 1876–Now, with other recent highlights including EMPAC, Rewire, TRAUMA, Atrium Žižkov, Wellcome Collection, Funkhaus Berlin, MeetFactory, National Sawdust, The Kitchen, and MoMa PS1’s Greater New York, among many others.

M. Lamar has developed 𝘼𝙐𝙍𝘼 𝙀𝙓𝙏𝙍𝘼𝘾𝙏𝙄𝙊𝙉 in collaboration with James Ilgenfritz and Sabin Michael Calvert.

James Ilgenfritz is recognized in The New Yorker for his “characteristic magnanimity” and “invaluable contributions to New York’s new-music community.” He is the founder and director of the Infrequent Seams record label and the nonprofit Ephemera Obscura, Inc. He performs internationally and has composed for Ghost Ensemble, the New Thread saxophone quartet, HUB New Music, The Momenta Quartet, Hypercube, String Noise, and Thomas Buckner.

Sabin Michael Calvert is a comics artist and long time collaborator of M. Lamar. Calvert has helped to mold Lamar's Negrogothic aesthetics drawing from underground black metal/punk/comic styles. He has been instrumental in the visual design and direction of Lamar's album art and stage work, having served as Art Director for the productions Negro Antichrist, Speculum Orum: Shackled to the Dead, Surveillance Punishment and The Black Psyche, as well as the forthcoming Funeral Doom Spiritual, and DESTRUCTION.

Free public shuttles will run from Pocketbook Hudson () to Art Omi from 3–7 PM on June 27 in 30-minute intervals.

Art Omi welcomes the public to the 2026 edition of Art Omi: Artists Open Studios on Saturday, July 11 from 1–4 PM.

This annual event invites visitors to wander the studios of our 24 international Artists-in-Residence and two Critics/Curators-in-Residence, hailing from nearly 20 countries for a month of creative and cultural exchange in the Hudson Valley. Visitors can expect an intimate glimpse into work spanning disciplines, techniques, and geographies: a trip around the art world without ever leaving our Studio Barn.

Are you ready for some 𝕊𝕙𝕖𝕟𝕒𝕟𝕚𝕘𝕒𝕟𝕤? The afterparty you’d hate to miss, presented in collaboration with Pocketbook Hudson and Elephant Magazine, celebrating new projects by Nayland Blake and Tschabalala Self with Art Omi, unfolds on Saturday, June 27 from 8:30 PM–Late at Pocketbook Hudson.

Hosted by Mistress of Ceremonies Dusty Shoulders, the evening kicks off with a performance by legend Bibbe Hansen and readings by the inimitable Peter McGough, Isaiah Davis, Whitney, Shanekia McIntosh, and Alex Jovanovich.

The revelries will continue on the dance floor of Ether, Pocketbook Hudson’s subterranean club, with DJ sets by Ms. Carrie Stacks and Skype Williams.

🎛 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗯𝗲𝘁 is comprised of longtime music educators Nick Llobet and Micah Prussack who proudly act as

Created in motion and shaped between long stretches of touring, their newest album reflects a moment of ecstatic possibility and grit. Both sharpened and expansive, youbet grows from the confines of home recording and “bedroom pop” into something sturdier, louder, and unmistakably their own.

DANIRO () will debut a newly commissioned performance at the Art Omi Summer Opening on Saturday, June 27 from 3–6 PM in dialogue with the East Coast premiere of Tschabalala Self's 𝗣𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿 (), a monumental bronze sculpture originally commissioned by Desert X.

A Brooklyn-based artist whose work has been presented at MoMA and Mana Contemporary, DANIRO makes visceral, body-centered work that refuses to look away.

Conceived as a monument to the collective foremothers of contemporary America, Self describes Pioneer as a "figure simultaneously born out of the historical event of America's creation and one that has an ephemeral quality, untethered by any moment in time."

📓 Develop Conceptual Rigor:
Professional reviewers look for more than just a well-drawn figure; they want to see how an artist thinks—shifting focus from "making objects" to "exploring themes."

🎨 Site-Specific and Multi-Disciplinary Expansion:
Art Omi's large-scale sculpture and architecture will motivate campers to work outside the 2D plane and experiment with installation, process-based, and large-scale formats, demonstrating risk-taking and multi-disciplinary approaches to their work.

🔍 Develop a Critical Lens:
Campers will start to develop a "critical eye" through formal and informal peer reviews and professional critiques with Art Omi faculty.

📂 Strategic Portfolio Curation:
A portfolio isn't just a collection of your best pieces, it’s a curated narrative of your growth. Campers will receive support to identify gaps in their current body of work and have studio time to fill them with "anchor pieces." They will be guided through the process of selecting, sequencing, and writing an artist statement as needed.

🔆 Find Joy in Your Art:
PORTFOLIO isn't an art bootcamp! Our goal is to foster agency and a sense of joyful discovery in their creative process. We aim to provide an individualized experience where each camper acts as the lead researcher and creator of their own project.
