On this Memorial Day, I am sitting and drawing in the passenger seat of my Subaru while my husband is behind the wheel driving us home from visiting our grandson in Nashville. Memorial Day means more to me each year as the fragility of our democracy becomes more evident day after day. I am very lucky to never have lost a loved one in the line of duty, knowing so many of you have experienced that unimaginable loss. But yet, I get the privilege of living with the freedoms they fought for over the years. These words have taken residency in my mind ever since I read them recently;

For years this small but mighty group of wonderful people serve hundreds of folks breakfast and lunch everyday. (Almost everyday for me🤪). The line to get in every morning is legendary and has been for years. This is the staff, minus a few, from The Windmill Restaurant here in downtown Holland. I was so happy to show them my gratitude for the constant big smiles and great food they serve up every time I go. And look at the amazing art they created. Way to go everyone!! I love my neighborhood and I am so grateful for the people around me who make our world so much brighter. Please check out the Windmill Restaurant if you haven't already. They won't disappoint!! I can't wait to paint with everyone again.

Because of all the Tulip Time wonderfulness, we didn't have a painting event in May and I really miss you all. That being said, I am so excited to have a Paint and Sip event in the calendar for Saturday, June 13th and 7 pm. By June we hope to be in full Summer mode so the most summery thing I think to paint is a watermelon. Our friends at Cherry Republic will be joining us again with their light snacks, wine samples and cocktails. Register today to come and join the fun. It's time to come together and paint Summer themed art, and nothing says Summer more than watermelon. So invite your favorite young artist on June 13th, 1:00 pm to create a beautiful piece of art together by painting two separate canvases. If you have more than one favorite young artist then let's paint an unusually longggg watermelon. The possibilities are endless. Register today by going to our website and clicking on events. Better late than never. I got so wrapped up in our Tulip Time festivities, I forgot to post about our new class beginning this week. For those of you who have joined me before, I will have all new projects to learn more about gouache.
