Hawaiʻi students, America’s story needs your voice. 📢❗️

Freedom 250’s American Heroes Student Art Contest is open to students in grades 3–12, and we just learned that no submissions from Hawaiʻi have been made yet. Let’s change that.

As America prepares to mark its 250th birthday, students across the country are being invited to create original artwork honoring an American hero from history. From Pearl Harbor to the Pacific, Hawaiʻi has a powerful story to tell about courage, service, sacrifice, innovation, and resilience.

At Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum, we see that story every day. We preserve aircraft, artifacts, and historic spaces that connect today’s students to the men and women who served before them. Our hangars still carry the scars of December 7, 1941, and our mission is to ensure those stories continue to inspire future generations.

We would love to see Hawaiʻi students submit artwork inspired by an American hero connected to Pearl Harbor, aviation, military service, Hawaiʻi, or the broader story of freedom in the Pacific.

✈️✈️Special PHAM recognition: If a Hawaiʻi student submits an entry inspired by Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum, our historic campus, or a hero connected to our mission, PHAM will recognize one local submission with a complimentary PHAMily Membership and a featured spotlight through our museum channels. To participate, submit your drawing via email to [email protected] and include your name and a phone number and email.

The deadline is coming fast: Monday, June 1, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. EST.

Parents, teachers, youth leaders, and students: please share this widely. Let’s make sure Hawaiʻi is represented on the national stage.

Today, we honor the birthday of Bob Hope, whose decades of entertaining America’s troops made him a lasting symbol of morale, laughter, and connection for those serving far from home. His legacy remains an enduring part of military history. 🇺🇸✈️

Four years ago this Memorial Day weekend, the Ford Island Control Tower opened to the public, welcoming visitors inside one of Pearl Harbor’s most iconic historic landmarks.

Since then, ongoing preservation efforts have helped care for and restore this remarkable site so future generations can continue to connect with its history.

This timelapse offers a behind-the-scenes look at some of the restoration work that helped bring the Tower back to life.

Today, the Tower continues to offer visitors a deeper understanding of Pearl Harbor through the Tower View Experience, a quick but powerful way to experience this historic place from a new perspective.

Take a look at history returning one brushstroke at a time.

Captured from the top of the historic Ford Island Control Tower, this timelapse shows the restoration of Hangar 37’s “VISITING AIRCRAFT” lettering, inspired by archival imagery from 1941. Originally, the designation marked the space for transient aircraft visiting Ford Island.

Artifacts tell stories. Interpretation brings them to life.

During a recent student field trip, our education team explained the history behind the drips and warping on this piece of USS Arizona inside Hangar 37.

That connection between artifact and story is what makes history unforgettable.

Make the most of your visit by booking a Guided Hangar Tour and uncover the stories behind the artifacts with one of our expert guides!
