The Emancipation Proclamation began in 1863, but was powerless unless Union troops enforced it. Two years later, when Union troops reached western Texas on June 19, 1865, the last enslaved people held in the Confederate states were finally freed. The date became known as "Juneteenth" and is celebrated as a day of freedom and is considered the oldest continuing celebration by the Black American community.

**Free family event!**

Join ACHP as we explore how immigrants influenced the Revolutionary War and building a new nation. We are also excited to have Rise Raptor Project join us for the event!

Doors open at 9:30, when guests can explore the grounds with staffed "history stops" of historic figures of the Revolutionary War. Tours of the historic buildings will be available until 2:00.

🇺🇸 The U.S. Veterans Memorial Museum encourages our community to attend Current Perspectives on Black Americans in the Civil War, an important discussion exploring the experiences, contributions, and lasting impact of Black Americans during the Civil War.

Conversations like these help preserve history, broaden perspectives, and honor the stories of those who shaped our nation.
