Welcome to our new series called What’s in the Box with Jennifer Capps, Vice President of Curation and Exhibition. Join us as she takes us behind the scenes to explore artifacts from the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site that don’t always make it into our exhibitions.

In honor of the Juneteenth Foodways Festival, this month’s featured artifact is a collection of original Harrison family cookbooks filled with recipes passed down through generations. Among them? A recipe for cherry pie said to be President Benjamin Harrison’s favorite dessert. 🍒🥧

Listen in and take a closer look at the stories hidden within these pages.

Want to see more hidden treasures? Plan a visit to the Site or join us for Coffee with the Curator every First Friday for an up-close look at history you won’t find anywhere else.
