Michigan Military Heritage Museum "Where History Matters"

Discover Michigan's Military History and learn about pure Michigan Heroes!

The Michigan Military History Museum was founded in 2016 to bring to life the rich history of Michigan's contributions in war and peace. Although we do focus heavily on the involvement of Michigan in the U.S Military; we have artifacts from all over the world, and from many different time periods. We truly strive to be "Where History Matters", and we look forward to meeting you all soon!

The final trench walls are in with some posters and mannequins added! We also did a near total remake of our WWII exhibit today. Still much more to come but thanks to our Save Our Youth team and our dedicated volunteers, much was accomplished on the dark, rainy, and gloomy weekend!

Just learned that we lost one of our favorite supporters, friend and volunteers this morning. Corporal James Gallas USMC. Jim served with 4th Amtrak Co. 1st Marine Division and as a Military Policeman at the San Diego Naval Prison 1954-57. Here at the museum Jim was responsible for all of our beautiful barn wood, our sawn wood picket posts and most of all for being our friend through these years. Always a smile and always on the go, that was Jim and he will be missed. Our prayers and thoughts go to Luella and the rest of the family. " Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in this World, the Marines don't have that problem" President Ronald Reagan. Rest well Jim, Semper Fi!

Thanks to all of the storms we had, today was dedicated to inside work. Some posters were added to the trench, another wall was moved, Vietnam area was changed a bit as was the Gulf Wars and Afghanistan area. Still much more to do but so far everything is coming together as planned without too many setbacks. If the weather holds, we will get the trench walls in tomorrow!

Today we got the final 8' of trench step built and installed and the 16' of upper wall added. The trench walls are all stained and ready to go in on Friday and the flooring is stained and ready for installation as well. Next up we will add more posters, mannequins and some awesome lighting to call this section complete! Huge thanks to all of our volunteers who braved todays heat to get this done as much of the cutting and staining is done in the parking lot.

Today we were able to remove the old trench, install the next 8' base and prepare for the completion! We also were able to move into the WWII area and re work the USMC displays. All in all a productive day at the museum!

Today we added some mannequins to the new trench section. These utilize some neat hideaway mounts so there isn't a large silver base looking silly! For that we thank our master fabricator, volunteer, and friend, Brian Murphy who designed them to work with our existing mannequin hardware. Still more to come, but the progress it yielding great results!

Huge progress made yesterday with the Home Depot folks and our amazing volunteers. Another 16' of trench installed with new higher walls and more of the WWI posters added for your viewing pleasure! Stop in, see the progress, learn some history, and ask how you too can get involved. All of this takes time, effort, and certainly a bit of money but thanks to wonderful donors like you all, we have and continue to make it happen! If you can't get physically involved, then feel free to visit our web site and make a donation so that we can continue to honor Michigan's military history and its veterans! mimilitaryheritagemuseum.org.
