We would like to address a couple things about our museum. These are based on a couple reviews we have received as of recently.
1. It's a small museum. It is designed, on purpose, to be small. We want you to feel the energy that we painstakingly curated for this experience. We want it to be more personal and intement. Is it the size of "a closet" absolutely not. It is a storytelling, immersive experience into the paranormal and death. We stand by what we created and how we created it. There are plenty of cool "death" museums out there...We chose to offer something different from these other museums.
2. Yes, we understand the frustration people feel when we are closed. But, you should also understand, we are literally a "mom & pop" museum. We also run an oddities shop, a production studio and manage the building that we are housed in. The museum is VERY hit or miss with the local support it gets. We originally were open 5-6 days a week. Sadly, most of those days we had no visitors. We reduced the days open to 4 days. Again, most those days were slim to no visitors. We now have it open 3 days (Thursday- Saturday). During these 3 days the VAST amount of our visitors are from out of town (and out of State). Occasionally, unexpected life happens and because of our lack of staff, we have to close without much notice. Unfortunately that is the nature of a very small business. It saddens us very much to have to turn folks away, but we only do it because we are forced to. Today, I literally was pulled away from the museum due to a very personal and unexpected matter. A group came in from out of town wanting to visit our humble little museum. My wife called me and told me we had a group. I was absolutely in no shape to be doing a tour. I was also at least a half hour away. I told my wife I could be there in a half hour if they could wait...They said they would. I rushed back and gave them the tour, which they thoroughly enjoyed.
This is what we do, or try to do. Today worked out...Sometimes it doesn't.
This is what many small mom & pops go through. We do it because we love what we do. We are trying to "live the dream". We work non-stop.
So when we get a 1 star rating for being closed...That hurts. Does it suck for the person that tried, maybe multiple times, to go through the museum and it was closed...Yes. And again, we HATE to turn folks away. But, it was only because we had no choice.
I don't necessarily blame someone for leaving a low rating because they couldn't get in. But maybe just don't leave a review at all. Maybe think about what us small, struggling, businesses are going through. Like I said, we use to be open ALL the time...Very few came. We could of just shut it down completely. But we love and believe in what we do.
We will give it our all to keep the museum open in Lansing. It's a very unique experience. The folks that have been through it absolutely loved it. We hope, one day, it will be a consistent flow, where it will be much easier to keep it consistently open.
NEWSFLASH: Over the recent holidays we closed for several weeks for an expansion and added exhibits. Well, we will be moving the entire museum coming VERY soon. Same building. Bigger and better spot. Plus, it will be attached to our oddities shop, which will make it MUCH easier to operate.
Stay tuned for updates.
