A story behind every door. It's mission is to collect, preserve and present the history of Lexington County.

The Lexington County Museum offers a rare & unforgettable experience with structures & artifacts that focus on the everyday lives of Lexington County residents from the colonial period to the Civil War. Located on 7 acres of land in downtown Lexington, the Museum features 30 historic structures including the oldest house in Lexington. The Museum features locally made furniture, textiles, pottery, and weapons. Visit the Museum to experience a way of life gone forever!

Don't forget about our upcoming Lexington Murders and Mysteries Walking Tour to be held on November 13. This free tour starts at the Icehouse Amphitheater at 8 pm. No tickets or reservations are needed.

The museum recently gave a tour to SC Welcome Center employees. We were able to show them some of the unique structures and artifacts in the museum's collections.

Thanks to everyone who came out for Haunted History Halloween last Thursday and Friday! We really appreciate the support. Also thanks to all the volunteers who helped make the event successful.

Parking for the Haunted History tours can be found in our parking lot on Fox Street, alongside our picket fence on Fox Street, and in our lot off Columbia Avenue between Kirkland Flooring and Sherwin Williams. Please do NOT park in front of the homes of our neighbors. If you have any questions, just let us know.

Come out to the Lexington Main Library on Tuesday October 20th to learn about the belief in witches, ghosts, and hexes in 19th century Lexington County. This free presentation will begin at 6:30 pm.

Come out to the Batesburg-Leesville Branch Library this afternoon at 4 pm to hear about the superstitions of Lexington County and the Dutch Fork in the 19th century.

Going to the State Fair this weekend? Did you know Lexington County once hosted a fair? Although there had been a fair in Lexington County before the Civil War, the county didn't have a county fair after the war until October 1897.

This article from the State Newspaper in October 1931 mentions that a friendship quilt made ca. 1820 was on display at the fair. We have very similar quilts from around the same time period on display here at the museum.
