Long Beach Heritage is proud to introduce Moonlight & Music, a new free monthly summer concert series as part of Summer of Architecture, set beneath the stars at the historic Bembridge House.

Held in the charming backyard Peppertree Court, this series invites the community to gather for relaxed, open-air evenings filled with live music, local talent, and the unmistakable ambiance of one of Long Beach’s most beloved historic spaces. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets, low chairs, and their favorite picnic fare while enjoying performances staged from the home’s picturesque back porch.

Thanks to the generous support of the Port of Long Beach, this series not only remains free and accessible to the public, but also ensures that our featured artists are fairly compensated—supporting the vibrant creative community that makes Long Beach so special.

Light refreshments and permitted treats will be available for purchase during each event, adding to the festive, neighborhood feel of these evenings.

Before Instagram… there were postcards.

In the early 1900s, it became wildly popular for homeowners, hotels, and businesses to turn photographs of their properties into custom postcards. Families proudly mailed images of their homes across the country as a way to share their lifestyle, travels, and accomplishments.

This 1908 postcard features the Historic Bembridge House shortly after it was built — complete with a handwritten invitation for friends to come enjoy “the beach” in Long Beach.

At a time when Long Beach was still growing into a seaside destination, postcards like these helped shape the city’s image and offered an early glimpse into California dream living.

The Bembridge House wasn’t just a home… it was already becoming a landmark worth mailing.

The Carriage House Quilters are stitching history back together at The Bembridge House.

Join us the last Tuesday of every month from 1:00 PM–3:00 PM for an afternoon of creativity, conversation, and community inside one of Long Beach’s most treasured historic homes. From repairing vintage quilts and delicate lace tablecloths to sewing curtains and preserving historic textiles, there’s always something beautiful in the works.

Whether you sew every day, haven’t picked up a needle in years, or simply want to make some new friends, all ages and skill levels are warmly welcome. Bring a project of your own or lend a hand with ours as we continue this longtime Bembridge tradition together.
