"The Amazon as Connecting Borderland," a series of Connecting Art Histories traveling research seminars, is featured in the latest issue of Universidad de los Andes' H-ART History, Theory and Art Critic Magazine (H-ART. Revista de historia, teoría y crítica de arte). The publication reflects the collaborative work of more than 30 emerging researchers who participated in the project from 2023–2025, advancing new approaches to the study of art, ecology, and the Amazon.

What does a year in museum conservation look like?

For recent graduate intern Vadim Van Meenen, it meant working closely with specialists across Getty and contributing to a major lacquer conservation project.

"What stands out most is the opportunity I had to connect with fellow interns, visiting scholars, and Getty staff members across different departments. This cross-pollination of ideas and perspectives significantly broadened my worldview, both professionally and personally," he says.

Applications are open for the Connected Teams Postdoctoral Fellowships (2027–29)!

As part of the Connecting Art Histories initiative, Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz – Max-Planck-Institut (KHI) and 4A_Lab, Berlin have an open call for the Connected Teams fellowship program, which studies the intersections of art, heritage, and environments in South Asia, Latin America, and Europe through transcultural and interdisciplinary collaboration. Participants are invited to collaborate across disciplines and continents to engage in fieldwork, collaborative research, annual seasonal schools, and global conversations that reimagine what art history can be in the 21st century. Fellowships will be with the Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta and the Department of Art History at the Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá.

Call for applications! Los Angeles museums and visual arts organizations are invited to apply to participate in the 2027 Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internship program.

For more than 30 years, the program has supported paid summer internships for students who are underrepresented in the arts, helping introduce the next generation of professionals to career pathways across the field. Eligible organizations may request support for up to three interns and are encouraged to design internships that provide meaningful mentorship, hands-on experience, and transferable skills.

Congratulations to the 2026 Fellowship for Visual Artists cohort: nine artists whose work helps us understand Los Angeles.

We’ve once again partnered with California Community Foundation to offer support to artists, who are fundamental to our city’s thriving arts ecosystem. The collaboration reflects a shared commitment to supporting the artists who make Los Angeles a cultural center. It also aligns with our broader efforts to strengthen our local arts community through initiatives including PST ART, the Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internship Program, and recent wildfire relief support for artists and arts workers affected by disaster.

Today is World Architecture Day!

Did you know that many of the world’s most iconic 20th-century sites are made of reinforced concrete?

While it is an extraordinarily versatile material, preserving aging concrete requires specialized knowledge and care.

Getty is working to protect concrete landmarks by advancing conservation research, developing practical repair guidance, and supporting preservation efforts through grants and specialized training.

Many of the buildings in this video received funding for preservation efforts through Getty Foundation's Keeping It Modern initiative. Plus, Getty Conservation Institute runs an International Course on the Conservation of Modern Heritage (MAC) which offers professionals caring for important modern buildings around the world hands-on training in the conservation of reinforced concrete, connecting research and guidance with practical, on-site experience.

From archaeological excavation to 3D scanning, Getty Scholar Rachel Ama Asaa Engmann and Graduate Intern Tom Keep brought hidden histories of Ghana’s Christiansborg Castle to light. Their work uses digital technologies to expand access to cultural heritage, support community-centered storytelling, and reimagine how we study the legacies of the transatlantic slave trade.
