, we honor Fannie Lou Hamer, born in 1917. A powerful voice for voting rights and economic justice, Hamer helped lead the Mississippi Freedom Summer Movement, the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, and grassroots efforts with the Poor People’s Campaign.

Her lifelong commitment to service began after a 1962 SNCC meeting near her hometown, reminding us that each of us can use our voice, time, and courage to create meaningful change.

The 35th Freedom Award brought us together to celebrate Fred Gray, Shavon Arline-Bradley, Bakari Sellers and Nneka Ogwumike—four extraordinary leaders whose work reminds us that the pursuit of freedom is both a legacy we inherit and a responsibility we carry forward.

Thank you to our Keeper of the Dream honorees, guests, Freedom Award honorees, incredible host Larenz Tate, inspiring entertainment Tamela Mann, our supporters, and everyone who joined the National Civil Rights Museum for this unforgettable evening.

What an inspiring morning at the Freedom Award Student Forum! Students connected with civil and human rights leaders and explored how they can create meaningful change in their communities.
We proudly celebrated this year’s Keeper of the Dream honorees—Jasmine Bernard, Ava Hayes, Charles Edward Jones III, and Gregory Stallings—for their courage, compassion, leadership, and service.
