in 1954, the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously ruled in Brown v. Board of Education that school segregation was unconstitutional, stating that segregation of public schools violated the 14th Amendment.

Though the ruling was still unconstitutional, its implementation would prove slow and be challenged at the state level.

The Legacy Experience officially reopens today, and this event is for the community!

Our doors open at the Lorraine Building at 9 am, and the Legacy Experience starts promptly at 10 am. We’re inviting Memphis to gather, reflect, and celebrate together at the National Civil Rights Museum.
Join us for:
• $15 admission all day (opening day only)
• Ribbon-cutting ceremony
• Live music and cultural performances
• Family-friendly activities and interactive experiences
• The launch of Our Stories. Our Museum, a summer community story-sharing initiative

Come as you are—bring your family, your neighbors, your students, your church, your friends. Let’s honor the past, uplift the present, and imagine what’s possible together.

You can purchase your tickets on-site, but online tickets are encouraged.
