A graffiti writer’s signature, known as a tag, is the foundation of a writer’s artistic idenitiy. Much like a signature, no two tags are alike. Each reflects its author’s personality through stylistic choices. The skill of a writer is revealed in the flow of the tag, how the lterrs move together and the ease with which they’re executed. In essence, a tag functions like a logo: instantly recognizable, unforgettable and deeply personal.

Now on display at the Museum of Graffiti is a selection of tags featuring different generations of graffiti writers from different cities for you to experience firsthand. Open to the public everyday.

Meet Cripta Djan ( ), a São Paulo–based artist who began tagging and practicing pixação in 1996 at just 12 years old. Early on, he joined Cripta, one of the city’s original pixação crews, of which he remains a member today.

Known as one of the pioneers of escalada — free climbing 20-story skyscrapers without safety equipment to leave his mark on untouched surfaces across the city — Cripta Djan transformed rebellion into a powerful visual language.

His work offers a new perspective on the cultural, socio-economic, and artistic significance of pixação. Through repeating geometric letterforms and coded scripts, he has developed a distinct artistic practice that communicates both power, resistance, and identity.

Visit the Museum of Graffiti and experience our new exhibition, *Pixação: Marks of Rebellion*, now on view. Shop the collection today.
