"You can make wine out of anything but a rock." 🍇

That's how Foxfire contact John Bulgin put it, says a lot about the spirit of The Foxfire Book of Winemaking.

This companion book gathers recipes, memories, and old home methods from more than 25 Foxfire contacts, with notes on ingredients, equipment, and the know-how passed along through families and neighbors.

Muscadines, scuppernongs, blackberries, elderberries, dandelions, rhubarb, persimmons, and plenty more. Not just anonymous recipes, they carry the names and stories of the folks who shared them ~

We’re Back! ✨ Foxfire's 18th Annual Heritage Days Returns June 5 & 6

For two days, the historic village fills with the sound of hammers at the forge, music, a jumble of friends and families, the smell of chicken roasting over the fire, barbecue, biscuits baking

It’s the old ways, shared with new folks, right here in the middle of the mountains!

You’ll see blacksmithing, weaving, open-fire cooking, pottery, basketry, butter making, woodcarving, chair caning, flint knapping, soap making, walking sticks, small engines, children’s activities, and more spread throughout the cabins and on our porches

The black powder rifle demonstration will take place Friday and Saturday at 10:45am. It will be loud, smoky, and hard to miss!

Come wander the village, talk with demonstrators, watch things being made by hand, and spend time in the Children’s Village. Bring the kids! And your curiosity and appetite ~

Coming to Rabun County the first weekend in June? Make Foxfire part of the day.

"Come butter come."

That's the old churning song folks sang to keep time with the work, written down in The Foxfire Book. Margaret shared with Foxfire students that butter was made at home, with extra sold to local families and stores. Sounds simple maybe? Beat cream until it turns solid. But anyone who has done it knows you watch the temperature and you watch the texture and it takes time and patience.

Did your family churn butter? Did they sing while they worked?
