The Artist Q&A for Light, Memory, and the Hand-Made Print was an afternoon of reflection, conversation, and inspiration.🎙️

Artist James Cuebas, curator Albert Justiniano, and Printshop Director Nitza Tufiño came together for an intimate dialogue exploring fifty years of photography, alternative printmaking, and the practice behind the work now on view.✨

Last night, the gallery came alive for James Cuebas. ✨

Artists, community, and friends gathered as fifty years of photography and alternative printmaking filled our walls for a solo exhibition. Beautiful words were exchanged. Stories were shared. Years of friendship, history, and a deep love for work that must be seen, and felt, in person filled every corner of the space.

This is what culture feels like. This is why Taller Boricua's Rafael Tufiño Printmaking Workshop matter.

Join us tomorrow for the Artist Q&A / Diálogo with James Cuebas and curator Albert Justiniano. Saturday, June 6 at 2 PM. Free admission. All are welcome.

Light, Memory, and the Hand-Made Print is now open and on view through August 1, 2026.

As fellow talleristas, we celebrate this milestone for Consejo Grafico Nacional and the entire Latino printmaking community. ✨
See it, share it, support the work 👊 Latino printmaking deserves to be seen at every level.

Pleased to share that two of our portfolios will be exhibited at the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art this year.

Opening reception Saturday May 30th.
Exhibition will run through spring 2027

📍Eiteljorg Museum of
American Indians and Western Art
500 West Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46204

“The exhibition, Consejo Grafico Nacional: Latino Printmakers in the United States, includes 40 prints produced through an independent coalition of workshops, called talleres, based in Chicago, Texas, California, New Jersey, New York and Puerto Rico. Featuring prints by artists from across the Americas who trained in or are affiliated with these workshops, the exhibition is organized into two sets, or portfolios—each with its own distinct theme.
One portfolio, La Huella Magistral: Homage to Master Printmakers, recognizes the artists’ mentors who taught and inspired them. The other, Los Americans: Same=Different, explores artists’ perspectives on how American identity is defined across borders. Both feature a broad range of printmaking techniques, including woodblock prints, linocuts, etchings, screenprints, lithographs and collagraphs. Some works involve multiple techniques combined into a single print. While the portfolios are united around central themes, the prints include a wide variety of visual styles and artistic approaches, reflecting the individuality of each artist.”

Join us Thursday June 4 for the Opening Reception.

For fifty years, James Cuebas has walked into the world with a camera and no agenda. No destination. No plan. Just presence and a lifelong devotion to the moment light, gesture, and composition arrive together in the same breath. Down side streets and into quiet corners, through cities and small neighborhoods, following light in search of the unrepeatable instant when something ordinary becomes worth remembering.

This Thursday, Taller Boricua opens Light, Memory, and the Hand-Made Print: Journeys Through Photography and Alternative Processes, a solo exhibition celebrating the art of seeing and the craft of the hand-made print. James Cuebas' work transforms decades of travel and memory into something tactile and singular, where every photograph is given a second life by hand.

Thursday, June 4 at 6 PM
Taller Boricua Gallery at the Julia de Burgos Latino Cultural Center

Free admission. All are welcome.

Taller Boricua hosted Impresiones de Resistencia — a film screening and dialogue celebrating Puerto Rican printmaking as a living act of resistance, community, and cultural memory.
✨
The evening took place in our Rafael Tufiño Printmaking Workshop space and featured a rich conversation with an incredible panel:
🎬 Director Reinaldo Gil Zambrano
🎞️ Producer Miranda K. Metcalf
🖼️ Artist Poli Marichal
📚 Collector & Cultural Advocate Alexis "La Cabra" Figueroa
✊ Artists featured in the film: Fraixa Albizu Rodríguez & Javier Moreno
✨
The documentary shines a light on División de Educación de la Comunidad (DIVEDCO) and the generations of artists who turned printmaking into a tool for public education, cultural affirmation, and collective memory — work that remains deeply relevant today.
The room was full of energy, joy, and connection.
✨Please enjoy the full Q&A here: [https://youtu.be/2XksWRmuSdk]
✨
This also marks a milestone as the first NAICA-hosted screening under our affiliation with Taller Boricua. We're proud to carry this tradition forward.

This past Saturday, artist Ruben Natal-San Miguel gave an exclusive tour of WELCOME TO HARLEM USA to students from Lehman College , led by Professor Magdalena Sagardía-Jiménez—who teaches Latin American and Caribbean studies, the Latino diaspora, Spanish, art and literature—and Vice President Gabriel Bencosme of the Latinos Unidos Club.

The group explored Ruben's 25-year visual archive of East and West Harlem as part of a larger tour examining the roots and legacy of the Latino diaspora in El Barrio. Students had an inspiring experience meeting Ruben, engaging in rich conversations about photography, community, and cultural preservation—the kind of exchange that inspires generations of artists to come.

It was a lovely and enriching afternoon connecting students with art that reflects their communities and histories.

📍 WELCOME TO HARLEM USA is on view through May 17 at Taller Boricua Gallery, 1680 Lexington Avenue.
