Desert Art Center, established in 1950, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to stimulate, educate, and nurture the visual arts in the Coachella Valley through arts education, gallery space for emerging and established artists, and membership programs.

This coming weekend! Saturday and Sunday, 2.28.26 + 3.01.26.

It is not too late to register for our Master Class, 2 day workshop in pastels with award winning, local pastelist, Larry Hemmerich. Don’t let the word “master” intimidate you! Larry is a consummate and patient instructor who will help you fall in love with this luminous, velvety medium. You may have seen his stunning work at his studio located in the Back Street Arts District and in the main gallery at the Desert Art Center.

Weeeeeee! It’s high art season here in Palm Springs! All NEW shows open TOMORROW, Thursday February 5!

All members show featuring works under the theme MidMod will be in the Terry Masters Gallery. Come vote for the People’s Choice Award. The main gallery will feature fresh work from our juried artists.

On Friday, February 6, Round III of our own version of Artist of the Year competition takes place. Winners will be announced at the reception that evening, 5pm -7pm. Final competition among the 9 selected takes place in April.

Round III AOTY competing artists are: Andrew Marr, Scott Marr, Diane Morgan, Judith Perry, Laurie Shafer, Jen Shakti, Drew Shields, and Krista Wargo. Good luck to all!

We must sadly announce the sudden passing of long time DAC artist member, Khrysso Heart LeFey. Khrysso defined himself as an artist, wordsmith, folk musician, interfaith community minister/spirituality counselor, educator. At DAC, he was known for his unique and intriguing paper collages, and the stories they tell.

On Friday, August 8, Khrysso suddenly and unexpectedly died at his home in Morongo Valley where he lived with his husband, Grey Forge LeFey. This was the day before his opening at Art Colony of Morongo Valley, featuring 30 works he had created for his mother in her last days.

This show will remain up weekends in August, Fridays - Sundays, 11am - 3pm. All sales will go to his husband, Grey, to help offset the unexpected and unplanned burden of needing mortuary services. It was Khrysso’s wish to have his body donated to science. Because circumstances took much longer than acceptable for this option, his wish could not feasibly be attained.
