The almond city! For a brief period, Paso Robles had the world's largest concentration of almond orchards in the 1920s.

Due to declining crop productivity due to steadily decreasing rainfall (which impacted the dry-farmed almonds), new mechanical harvesters that couldn’t operate on the hills of Paso, and strong competition from farming in the San Joaquin Valley, almond orchards shrank by a staggering 85% by 1980.

As far back as 1795, Paso Robles has been referred to as “California’s oldest watering place.” It was the go-to spot for springs and mud baths! By 1868, people were traveling from other states to experience the baths.
