Untethered
Somewhere between COVID and CAREER resides self-doubt and uncertainty. Most artists have felt the insecurity of their chosen profession at one time or another. When you are floating untethered in the art world, you keep moving forward, you keep creating regardless of the prospect of the next big show.
During the pandemic Portland, Oregon, artist Stephanie Buer returned to school to earn a master's degree at Emily Carr University in Vancouver, BC. Her paintings and drawings have one foot in the world of the European masters and the other in the world of contemporary art. She then immersed herself in a residency with the Ellis-Beauregard Foundation in Maine resulting in her work being shown at the Rockefeller Boathouse Gallery in Seal Harbor, Maine. Untethered includes a retrospective of past work, with pieces from her master’s program at Emily Carr and her residency with the Ellis-Beauregard Foundation, as well as new work from summer 2023. Whether she is finessing skies, mastering masonry textures, or shining a light on the abandoned, Stephanie keeps pushing landscapes forward.
