Hellion Gallery

Hellion Gallery By appointment only The English definition of hellion is a troublemaker, but we think that sometimes you need to make trouble in order to advance.

The Japanese have a similar idea, illustrated in the quote “tall trees catch much wind”. If you cause trouble or stand out, you will get knocked down or criticized. These are the artists I like and the art I am in search of. My goal is simple. Seek out undiscovered artists from around the world and let everyone know about them. Bring the artist and the art lover together. Allow the artist to grow

and enjoy the rewards.

Opening a show in Seattle at the .seattle next month with The opening is actually just a few weeks away, on Thursday November 2nd from 5-9 ✨ I’m really looking forward to sharing some new and recent works from the last few chaotic years of traveling and living all over the place. It’s been wild.

Untethered
Somewhere between COVID and CAREER resides self-doubt and uncertainty. Most artists have felt the insecurity of their chosen profession at one time or another. When you are floating untethered in the art world, you keep moving forward, you keep creating regardless of the prospect of the next big show.

During the pandemic Portland, Oregon, artist Stephanie Buer returned to school to earn a master's degree at Emily Carr University in Vancouver, BC. Her paintings and drawings have one foot in the world of the European masters and the other in the world of contemporary art. She then immersed herself in a residency with the Ellis-Beauregard Foundation in Maine resulting in her work being shown at the Rockefeller Boathouse Gallery in Seal Harbor, Maine. Untethered includes a retrospective of past work, with pieces from her master’s program at Emily Carr and her residency with the Ellis-Beauregard Foundation, as well as new work from summer 2023. Whether she is finessing skies, mastering masonry textures, or shining a light on the abandoned, Stephanie keeps pushing landscapes forward.

Opening reception
First Thursday November 2nd,
5 - 9pm
at the RAILSPUR
419 Occidental Ave S. Seattle, Washington.

----Akira Kurosawa's Raygun---

Over his life, Ray has become a collector of relationships. He has befriended Kings and Queens, Heads of State and Dictators, actors artists and criminals as well as many every day people. Over the last 100 years Ray has favored making transporter devices as gifts for those people he found himself drawn to. These devices have the appearance of a “gun” but are essentially single-use transporters. The operator would point the device at a target and pulling the trigger, instantly transport the target to a location approximately 150 miles away and to the left.

The Ray-guns are designed specifically for each owner and are customarily gifted in a box with instructions to “please return after use along with a report of the discharge incident”. Ray has an industrial building in inner SE Portland where he stores hundreds of these spent transporters, each with a tag identifying the name of someone notable and sometimes obscure, at least to me anyway.

The Rayguns of Ray Horneaux

artist: Brian Elliot (excerpt from the origin story by Brian) One of the first concept shows I curated probably back in 2008. Brian gifted me Akira's raygun. It never had a case until last week when Brian showed up on my porch with it.
Now the story is complete.

So.. crazy day but this cute little girl named Jewel is going to her new family in Portland with . From a Korean slaughter house to Los Angeles and now she is snug as a scared freaked out bug in rug on my plane. All's well that ends well.

We could all use some good news these days...
