We had a delightful class in-studio yesterday.

Every Saturday, we teach a Bob Ross painting from the Joy of Painting program. Yesterday it was Ebony Sunset from Season 1 Episode 3.

This painting starts with a black gessoed canvas and we cover it was a transparent color (in this case Alizarin Crimson) and we start building layers and layers to get depth & dimension. The effects you can get are truly beautiful.

We had a special birthday yesterday. Geri turned 88 years old and you would never believe it. She’s the sweetest most vibrant soul. And her granddaughter, Alix, is a natural artist. She really made the painting her own and it was a beauty….just like her!

PFA’s Acrylic Artist, Rich Fischer, held an all-day seminar in-studio yesterday.

These three hard working students learned valuable techniques and walked away with gorgeous paintings.

Rich’s next seminar is a gorgeous Grand Canyon scene called Canyon Vista. It takes place on Friday, June 26th, from 9 am - 3 pm (with a one hour lunch break) and the cost is $99 which includes all materials.

Had a super fun session today with this lovely lady, Jan.

Because she did a private lesson, she got to pick any Bob Ross painting that he did during his Joy of Painting program on PBS. He did over 400 paintings while on the air.

Jan picked A Pretty Autumn Day which I had never done before. My schedule has been so tight so I didn’t have time to do it in advance. We did it together and I’m so thrilled with how she did. Jan has taken one other weekend class with me so this was her second time painting since her high school days.

Jan learned valuable techniques today and especially became far more advanced with the pallet knife. I always tell students that if you want to become a good oil painter, you need to make friends with the pallet knife. It can be one of your best assets for creating amazing paintings.

Every Saturday is special at Prescott Fine Art.

That’s when Tamara teaches Open Painting Bob Ross introduction to oil techniques. Anyone 12+ can attend these 4 hour sessions (pre-registration is required) for our lowest class price of $75. That includes all materials needed, even the 18”x24” canvas.

We did Towering Peaks yesterday. Not the easiest painting for beginners but these students powered straight through and they were even up for learning to paint evergreens after getting through a huge mountain. I was so proud of each of them!

If you’re not comfortable in a group setting, she also offers private and semi private options.

Nancy & Betsy, thank you so much for spending a few hours of your day with me today. You are both delightful and I’m so pleased with how your paintings turned out.

If you would like to learn to paint with oil, Prescott Fine Art is the place for you. Our Bob Ross classes are considered beginning oil painting classes, and if you would like to become more advanced, we have something called Paint Time where we teach more advanced techniques.

When you sign up for a private, semi-private or group class, you get to select any painting that Bob Ross did while he was on the air and he did over 400 paintings.

This Saturday, May 23rd, at 11 am, we’ll be painting this Bob Ross beauty, Towering Peaks.

We still have seats available. The class is about 4 hours long and you will learn the basics of oil painting. NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED! Seriously, even if you’ve never picked up a paint brush, you can do this.

Price is $75 and includes all the materials needed even your 18” x 24” canvas.

CRI, Tamara Holcom, will be teaching this painting in an easy to follow, step-by-step process that anyone can pick up.

NEW ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Kim Falke

Kim Falkey is one of our newest artists in the Prescott Fine Art Gallery.

She is originally from Texas and she and her husband moved to Arizona in 1983.

Kim has received multiple awards and today focuses on mixed media art, incorporating a variety of objects and materials to create the rich textures that define her work.

Her pieces are widely appreciated for their originality, uniqueness, and distinctive style, and oh those colors. She uses a lot of metallic colors in her work and they are absolutely stunning!!!

Kim, welcome to the Gallery. We’re so proud to showcase your work and know that you will be very successful here.

We had a fully booked class on Saturday where we painted a Bob Ross desert cutie called Desert Hue.

Thanks to all our eager students who came out with great attitudes ready to soak up the techniques.

It’s so fun to do the ‘great reveal’ when we have canvases that are taped off. It literally frames your painting so you either don’t have to frame it or if you do, it looks like it’s already matted….super cool!
