We are looking for Gate Greeters for Midsommar Fest 2026! Volunteer for either a morning or afternoon shift. What's the job? Just to be a friendly face as patrons enter the event, use our counter clickers to keep track of attendance, and hand out the schedule of event flyers to passersby! Come take a stroll through the Erlander Home Museum this Thursday, May 28th at 10:00 AM! All tours begin with a short introductory video before guests are guided through one of Rockford’s historic homes— full of beautiful antiques and artifacts that tell the story of early Swedish immigrant life in our city. This is a Pop-up Tour, so no need to RSVP, just show up! Admission is $10 (or free for SHS members).

Following Midsommar Fest, our daytime Scandinavian Street Festival, we’ll continue the celebration with a peaceful evening around the maypole! Enjoy the longest day of the year by bringing a blanket or chair, packing a picnic, and unwinding with our favorite ABBA playlist, the Swedish yard game Kubb, and great company around the beautiful maypole on Saturday June 20, 2026 from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM. Become Swedish Historical Society of Rockford's next Youth Ambassador!

A $250 scholarship is being offered to the winning essay on the meaning of a student’s Swedish heritage. The winning essay will be read at the Swedish Historical Society’s Midsommar Fest on June 20, 2026. The winner will be the Swedish Youth Ambassador of Rockford for one year.

In a 500-word essay, describe what your Swedish Heritage means to you. How and why is it important? Family anecdotes are most welcome. Essays are to be in 12 font New Times Roman font, double spaced. Essays are to be developed and written by the young person. AI or other such help is not to be employed.

Two copies of the essay are to be submitted to the Swedish Historical Society by June 13th. To be included: Name, age, grade, school, address and phone number. Students are to be 14 years or older.

Today (Friday) is the last day to sign up for our SHS Group Tour at Midway Village Museum, taking place tomorrow (Saturday) at 10:00 AM! Spots are still available, so reserve yours by emailing [email protected] or calling 815-963-5559.

Tomorrow we'll also be hosting our Mormor's Attic Donation Drop-off Day at the Nordic Cultural Center from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM! Donate your gently used home goods, art, or other Scandinavian items for us to resell at our Midsommar Fest 2026 as part of our annual fundraising efforts.
