NHMU and BLM Utah were recently honored with the Award for Excellence in Curation and Collections Management from the Society for American Archaeology. The award recognized work done to preserve and prepare for curation 101,000 archaeological objects that were recovered by the federal government. The museum and agency's efforts over more than a decade includes collaboration with Indigenous communities to identify and, when possible, repatriate these stolen objects to their rightful homes. Last week, NHMU paleontologist Carrie Levitt-Bussian traveled to New York City to return The Explorers Club flag #203 to the acclaimed 122-year-old institution during its annual gala. Carrie had carried the club's emblem on numerous expeditions into the remote desert south of where she and a team of fellow spent years completing excavation of the American West's first dinosaur discovery made in 1859!
