The big-screen adventure movies we love may ignite our curiosity for archaeology, but they hardly show us an accurate picture of what the job looks like day-to-day. "Without actually doing it, I think it's very difficult to get a real sense of it," said archaeologist Jamie Greenland. "It's different. It's amazing. But not The Mummy. There’s no Brendan Fraser out in the field — unfortunately for all of us."

Today is ! 🦖🦕🦖 and our staff is celebrating by drawing their favorite dinosaur from our Past Worlds exhibition!

NHMU's paleontology collections comprise nearly 61,000 catalogued specimens, including over 40,000 vertebrate, 12,500 invertebrate, 6,000 paleobotanical, and 2,000 ichnology fossils!

Earlier this year, a cruise ship returning from Argentina experienced an outbreak of hantavirus among its passengers. As the news broke in the United States, questions and speculation about the virus spread like wildfire across digital platforms, leading to the distribution of misinformation and many more questions. Will hantavirus cause another pandemic? How worried do we need to be? Can hantavirus spread from person to person?

With a background in hantavirus research, NHMU’s Vertebrate Zoology Collections Manager Destiny Gonzalez is here to stop the speculation and answer your hantavirus questions.
