Keshi, the Zuni Connection

Keshi, the Zuni Connection Keshi is the traditional greeting of the Zuni people from western New Mexico. We continue to buy directly from the Zuni people. Elah'kwa (thank you in Zuni)

Our gallery’s mission is to honor Zuni art & artists through advocacy, education, and ethical trade; to be a blessing and a bridge between Zuni and the wider world. Established in 1981 as a co-op for Zuni arts and crafts, Keshi has always maintained personal relationships with individual carvers, jewelers, and potters. Our reasonable prices and complete authenticity reflect this. We host one of th

e largest selections of Zuni fetishes in the world and we feel honored to be involved with these kind and generous people. We welcome you to call or visit Keshi and experience a Zuni connection for yourself.

Frogs and Zuni Rainbirds work hand in hand to bring blessings of rain. Rainbird is known as the The Bringer Of Life, representing prayers for rain and snow. Shannon Calavaza is a wonderful animal carver offering a precious Frog sculpted from onyx. Wide set eyes are from watery blue turquoise inlays, while beautifully-executed sgraffito etching honors the Rainbirds in all their glory. About 2" long, 2 1/4" wide and 7/8" tall.

Happy Mother’s Day!

We want to give special recognition and gratitude to the two remarkable women who founded and built Keshi The Zuni Connection in Santa Fe into what it is today. Your vision, dedication, creativity, and commitment created more than a business — you created a place of connection, culture, artistry, and community that continues to touch so many lives.

Thank you for the inspiration you’ve given, the paths you’ve opened, and the legacy you continue to carry forward. Wishing you both, and all mothers everywhere, a beautiful and love-filled Mother’s Day. 💐

This Mother’s Day, we honor the hands that nurture, teach, protect, and love through every season of life. 🤍

Featured in this beautiful scene is a stunning Corn Maiden carved by Sandra Quandelacy, surrounded by a touching mother and daughter carving by Bryston Bowannie — a reminder of the strength, wisdom, and connection passed from one generation to the next.

Today we celebrate all mothers, grandmothers, daughters, and mother figures whose love continues to shape our communities and traditions. Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at KESHi🌸

Zuni tradition teaches there are Six Directions in life, assigning a color and animal to each one. Long ago the Father of Medicine Societies Po-shai-an-kia established predatory animals as guardians of the Six Directions. They are each associated with a different color and are regarded as healing and protective. Fabian Tsethlikai's all-in-one Six-Directions hosts a white Wolf carved from marble, a picture jasper Mountain Lion, an Eagle from layered picture jasper, pipestone, turquoise and marble, a Badger from pipestone, a black marble Mole and a turquoise Bear all permanently attached to a gorgeous base from onyx. The far-seeing eagle is secured above the mole with a silver rod. The animal's sweet eyes are from inlaid turquoise except for bear whose eyes are from jet inlays. A legend is inscribed with the animals, colors and their directions on the underside of the base. All together, measurements are about 3 3/8" long, 2 1/2" wide and 1 5/8" tall.

“Snake Eye Sleeping Beauty Turquoise Petit Point Ring”
By Jess Johnson
An abundance of what’s referred to as “snake eye” round-shaped Sleeping Beauty turquoise stones resemble a reptile’s eye. They are secured with tiny, custom-cut bezels to support them in the traditional Zuni petit point technique as seen in Jess Johnson’s dynamic sterling silver ring that’s a size 9. This extraordinary station measures about 2 1/2” by 1 1/4”. Hand-stamped raincloud elements adorn the shanks and the underside of this all handmade ring. Signed by the artist.
