Seeking nominations for Standing In Her Power: Portraits Beyond the Colonial Frame - a collaboration between the Santa Rosa Junior College Multicultural Museum and LexMexArt, funded by a grant from the Santa Rosa Junior College Foundation Randolph Newman Cultural Enrichment Endowment.
We invite you to help us gather a circle of Native American Women whose presence carries story, memory, and power.
The museum is seeking TEN Native American women, across generations and tribal nations, to participate in a powerful portrait exhibition celebrating identity, cultural legacy, resilience, and the strength of Native women. Participants will be photographed in their traditional regalia, contemporary clothing, or both, in a way that reflects who they are and the stories they carry.
This exhibition is meant to honor Native women and create visibility for the beauty, strength, and diversity within our communities. Participants will also receive:
• A $100 honorarium
• A selection of their portraits
• Inclusion in a museum exhibition and publication
Key Dates:
• July 10, 2026 – Final day to submit nominations
• July 21, 2026 – Participants notified
• August 2026 – Portrait sessions at the SRJC Multicultural Museum
• November 6, 2026 – Opening reception
