Sedona Arts Center is one of Northern Arizona’s most well-established cultural organizations and serves as the creative heart of Sedona. Founded in 1958, the nonprofit organization is based at the Art Barn in Uptown and offers year-round classes, exhibitions, festivals, and cultural events that enhance the creative life of the Verde Valley. The Center’s Fine Art Gallery promotes the original works of over 100 local artists and regularly offers special assistance for collectors and art buyers, offers private studio visits, and fosters hundreds of arts education opportunities each year.

SPAF 2026 Artist Spotlight | Hadley Rampton

Having drawn and painted for as long as she can remember, Hadley Rampton graduated from the University of Utah with an Honors BFA in Painting and Drawing in 1999. Rampton began painting professionally immediately after graduation.

Born and raised in Utah, Rampton developed a great love for the outdoors. Not surprisingly, painting en plein air in the mountain and desert landscapes of the Rocky Mountain West and Colorado Plateau became her motus operandi, with aspen trees becoming her favorite subject matter. Her time spent studying abroad ignited a love of exploration and immersion in other cultures, catapulting her practice of traveling to capture her impressions of foreign cities and street scenes in watercolor & ink.

Over the course of her over 26 year professional career she has participated in numerous Juried Exhibitions, Invitationals and Solo shows held at such venues across the country.

Experience the 22nd Annual Sedona Plein Air Festival, an immersive celebration of art set against the extraordinary red rock landscapes of Sedona and the surrounding Verde Valley, October 16–24, 2026.

No public festival events today, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to see! Artwork from the 22nd Annual Sedona Plein Air Festival is on view right now at Sedona Arts Center. Come celebrate paintings fresh off the easel and experience the beauty of the Southwest through the eyes of each artist.

Throughout the week, talented artists from across the country are capturing the landscapes of Sedona and the Verde Valley in real time, translating the colors, atmosphere, and character of Northern Arizona onto canvas.

After an afternoon of painting throughout the beautiful vineyards and grounds of D.A. Ranch, our Sedona Plein Air Festival artists are bringing their freshly created artwork together for judging.

Guest Judge Betty Carr will select this afternoon’s award winners, followed by an exclusive opportunity for guests to purchase these original works of art!

There’s something wonderful about seeing all these different artistic interpretations of the same beautiful location come together.

SPAF 2026 Artist Spotlight | Bill Perkins

After Bill Perkins graduating from Art Center College of Design in 1980, he pursued his career in fine art. The lure of plein air painting and traveling drew him first to Mexico to paint for his first one man show.

With the economic recession in 1985 and galleries struggling, he joined the Walt Disney Animation Studio as a layout artist and eventually art director. For the next nine years he worked on a string of hits including Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and art directed Aladdin. He went on to work on many other animated and live action films such as Shrek, Space Jam, Tangled, Frozen, and Zootopia, Mary Poppins Returns, the Spiderwick Chronicles, and Marvel animated series.

During his 37-year film making career he worked on over 32 films and TV shows. Throughout his years in the animation field, Bill has continued to paint and teach drawing, painting, color and composition through the New Masters Academy and is currently teaching at the ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena California, along with open plein-air workshops.

SPAF 2026 Artist Spotlight | Anton Nowels

Anton Nowels is an accomplished artist who has exhibited work on a national level, painting a variety of subjects and experiments with painting techniques. As a workshop instructor at Scottsdale Artists’ School and Winslow  Art Center as well as a private instructor, Anton teaches and explores concepts relating to representational abstraction.

Nowels has studied both contemporary and fine art. At Scottsdale Artists’ School, he earned scholarships to study with Ned Mueller, Camille Przewodek, and Romel de la Torre. At Arizona State University, he studied Interdisciplinary Art and explored contemporary art practices, including performance, installation, and video.

Currently, Nowels is working on a series of large-scale paintings that integrate representational and abstract impressionism. A seascape series was recently exhibited at the Mayo Clinic Phoenix campus. Through mid-September, Mayo will display a series of Anton’s landscape paintings focused on geographically-western locations.
