Next week Sioux Falls will select a new mayor and new city councilors; we thought it would be good to know where they stand on the arts.
We're not endorsing any candidates, just providing you with their responses, as they gave them.
Read the results here.

With the City election coming on June 2, SculptureWalk surveyed all Mayoral and City Council candidates to find out their ideas on the arts.

Public art becomes even more meaningful when it spans generations. 💛

This year, De and Dave Knudson and their grandson, Coy, are sponsoring “Rusty” by artist Bill Foy, a sculpture selected by Coy himself.

De shared that she was serving on the Sioux Falls City Council when SculptureWalk was first adopted and has loved the program ever since.

More than 20 years later, it’s special to see that same appreciation for public art being shared with the next generation.

ART LIVES HERE

What we’re celebrating here isn’t just sculpture.

It’s not just an event. It’s not just a downtown experience.

It’s something much bigger.

Art has this quiet but powerful way of shaping a place.

There’s a quote from Pablo Picasso that says:

“The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls.”

And if you think about it…Every one of these sculptures you’ll see over the next year - on a walk, on your way to work, with your family, with a friend-

They interrupt the ordinary.

They invite curiosity.
They spark conversation.
They make people pause.

And that’s what makes a community feel alive.

What SculptureWalk has done - now for 23 years - is pretty remarkable.

It’s taken art out of galleries and placed it right in the life of this city.

Where everyone gets to experience it.
Where everyone belongs in it.

And that’s not just because of one group. It’s because of all of you:

The artists who trust us with your work.
The sponsors who invest in something meaningful.
The volunteers who show up early and stay late.
And a community that continues to say:
“Yes - this matters.”
