This is another experiment in contrasting textures. I painted the background with a combination of cold wax and oil paints, done entirely with a palette knife. The Eastern Bluebird was done with expressive brushwork while trying to keep it simple. Right! I like the overall effect and I learned a few things. Hope you like it.

This a scene that had the pleasure of viewing on one of my rambles through the Chicago Botanic Gardens. The light was soft and glowing and lit up the grasses along the lagoon. As I sat there soaking up the scene, the breeze came up and gently swayed the Willows on the opposite bank. This is Mother Natures gift to all of us if we just slow down enough to see and appreciate it.

I found this little scene up in Door County and thought It would be a good subject for a more abstract approach. I used cold wax mixed in with my oil paints to give a more impasto feeling. After painting the background with a brush the rest of the painting was done with palette knives. The real lesson learned here was to be more spontaneous and leave the area alone once it was painted. Put it down and don't fuss with it.

This small painting was from a competition up in Northbrook, IL. 29 artists spread out on this beautiful property and I of course headed for the windblown prairie area. The garden flowers, Queen Ann Lace and golf courses in the distance caught my eye and I had fun talking with families as I painted this scene. A great weekend.

This is a small painting that came out of a class at the NSAL.
We studied combining cold wax and oil paint and I found it to be a lot of fun and it loosened me up . I needed that.

This painting started as a demonstration for an art class was teaching. It was rough but I thought it had possibilities as a finished painting. It also brought back nice memories of Rocky and I hiking up in Door County. Always worthwhile.

This is a plein air piece that I did one bright, sunny morning. 2 hours later rain came down and I was blown off the street. A good challenge.

This was a piece I did a few years ago for a friend that was a welcome design challenge. The theme was ascending and becoming something new. I had fun with the colors and the
painting technique.
