A new exhibit opens at the ALPLM next week as we commemorate America's 250th birthday. It's called "The Second American Revolution," and it examines the successes of Reconstruction after the Civil War and then the violent reversal of new rights for African Americans.

It includes rarely seen artifacts like a signed copy of the 13th Amendment and the pen Abraham Lincoln used to sign the Emancipation Proclamation. It also has several short films and interactive displays.

The exhibit is curated by the highly respected Manisha Sinha from the University of Connecticut, author of "The Rise and Fall of the Second American Republic."
