Checking in on the binturongs this week and they're thriving! 🍿 Still haven't made it over to see these incredible guests? This is your moment. They're sticking around for just a few more weeks before heading out.

Did you know they smell like buttered popcorn? Or that they're one of only two carnivores with a prehensile tail? These rare Southeast Asian mammals are absolutely incredible, and you've gotta experience them in person. 🌳✨

🎖️ FREE Admission for Active-Duty Military & Their Families! We’re proud to participate in our 14th year as part of the program, offering free summer admission to active-duty military personnel, including National Guard and Reserve members.

👉 Share this with someone who would benefit from this program!

This initiative runs from Armed Forces Day (May 16) through Labor Day (September 7) and honors those who serve by making cultural experiences more accessible all summer long.

We thank you for your service—and we can’t wait to welcome you to the !

🦅

From Our Collections: This powerful artifact from World War II was displayed by families with loved ones serving in the Armed Forces. Each blue star represents one family member in active duty.

This banner is a quiet but profound symbol of service, sacrifice, and support on the home front.

⭐ We preserve pieces like this because they remind us that history isn't just dates and events — it's personal. It's families. It's Tallahassee.

Meet our girls. 🐊 Did you know all of our resident alligators are female? And don't let that fool you — they have plenty to say. 💬

American alligators bellow, grunt, hiss, and rumble. 🔊 During breeding season, males let out infrasonic vibrations that make the water literally dance around them. But females vocalize too, communicating with each other and calling to their young with low, guttural sounds that carry across the water. 💧

Our girls were born in captivity, which means the wild isn't a safe option for them. Without the survival instincts developed in nature (like hunting, territory, navigation), releasing a captive-raised gator can put both the animal and the ecosystem at risk. So they live here, as permanent residents and pretty incredible ambassadors for their species. 🌟

Come listen to their bellows up close as the girls celebrate SPRING! 🌱✨

We're thrilled to see the birth of Rue and Ace's four red wolf puppies featured in the Tallahassee Democrat. With fewer than 300 red wolves remaining in the world, every new litter represents the love and effort that goes into supporting this critically endangered species. 💚🐺

Our team, alongside the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and 52 partner facilities, is committed to bringing red wolves back from the brink of extinction. From Dr. Cassandra Manuel's expert veterinary care to our very own animal care team's dedication to preserving the wolves' natural wariness of humans, every step of this process matters.

The pups will make their public debut later this summer. Until then, stay connected for updates on our website and social media!

Thank you for the coverage and for caring about preserving our wild regional culture. 🐺✨

Just in time to enjoy this beautiful spring weather, our Allosaurus and Dimetrodon are back on the Dino Trail after their relaxing vacation at the Challenger Learning Center of Tallahassee 🦕💚

We are grateful for all the love and attention they received while away from Director Alan Hanstein and staff, and we look forward to finding other exciting ways to partner in the future (stay tuned 👀).

Moving these Dino sculptures is a challenging and careful process that requires a team. We are grateful to the Challenger Center staff and our own amazing Facilities and Tree to Tree Adventures teams, who always jump in to help without question.

Part of what makes working at the Museum in this community so special is this type of camaraderie. 🦖✨ Make sure to come say hi and welcome our Dino friends back home!
