Behind the scenes of Watson’s spa day! πŸ¦¨πŸ›βœ¨

If you’ve ever wondered why Watson the striped skunk is a bit elusive when you visit, it’s because skunks are nocturnal creatures who love spending their days cozy inside underground dens!

While he might stay tucked away during peak daytime hours, our Animal Care team is always giving him top-tier care behind the scenes. Because Watson has a skin condition, our amazing animal keeper, Chris, gives him regular soothing baths to keep his fur and skin healthy and clean πŸ§ΌπŸ™Œ

Shoutout to Chris and the rest of our Animal Care team for taking such amazing care of Watson!

Drop a 🦨 in the comments to send Watson some love! πŸ‘‡

Behind this beautiful sculpture lies nearly 40 years of dedication to one of the rarest animals on Earth. 🐺✨

In 1988, the became just the sixth institution in the nation to join the Red Wolf Species Survival Plan. Today, as part of the AZA SAFE program under the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, we are proud to be one of 42 breeding facilities nationwide working tirelessly to bring the American Red Wolf back from the brink.

This gorgeous bronze casting, titled "Just Settling In" by artist Dale Weiler, was generously donated by Weiler Woods Wildlife in recognition of TM’s ongoing commitment to red wolf recovery.

As a recovery species, red wolves need our community's support now more than ever. Every ticket purchase and membership helps fund critical conservation work right here in North Florida. πŸ’š

Some people run on coffee. Chip runs on pure, unbothered armadillo energy! ⚑️

Chip joined the family in September 2024, and his journey here is one of amazing resilience. After someone poured gasoline down his wild burrow, Chip sadly lost his family and suffered severe chemical burns over most of his body. Thanks to a hero rehabilitator in Miami who nursed him back to health, he got a second chance at life!

These days, Chip is thriving, unbothered, and living his best life. He spends his time going on worm-eating walks, burrowing in the dirt, and getting his daily steps in on his wheel.

Fun Armadillo Facts:

🐣 Nine-banded armadillos (Dasypus novemcinctus) are always born as identical same-sex quadruplets
🌊 They can hold their breath for up to 6 minutes underwater, walking right along riverbeds or inflating their intestines to float across

A little midweek wisdom straight from the Wildlife Trail! 🐺✨

Red wolves are fiercely loyal, resilient, and true masters of quiet strength. Swipe through to check out these life lessons from our resident pack! 🌲🐾

Beyond their wisdom, did you know the American Red Wolf is the most endangered canid in the world? With only around 20 to 25 wild wolves remaining in eastern North Carolina and fewer than 300 in human care nationwide, every single wolf matters.

The has been actively helping save this recovery species from extinction since 1988 as part of the Red Wolf Species Survival Plan (now the AZA SAFE program), serving as one of only 42 breeding facilities in the country! πŸŒΏπŸ’š
