Tampa Baseball Museum at the Al Lopez House

Tampa Baseball Museum at the Al Lopez House The Tampa Baseball Museum at the Al Lopez House is a home for celebration, preservation, and education of baseball in Tampa & Ybor

Tampa Baseball Museum at the Al Lopez House honors and celebrates our community’s importance to baseball, and baseball’s importance to our community. Once open in 2016, the museum covers 135 years of baseball heritage with permanent and rotating exhibits focused on Ybor City, West Tampa, and Tampa baseball – involving local legends of the past and present. The museum is located in the former home

of Al Lopez – the first Major League player from Tampa, and first baseball Hall of Fame inductee from Tampa – and will soon be a home for celebrating many local past and present baseball greats. The mission of the Tampa Baseball Museum at the Al Lopez House is to preserve and honor Tampa’s unique historic role in the game of baseball and provide community inspiration by celebrating local legends – past, present, and future. The Tampa Baseball Museum at the Al Lopez House was developed by the Ybor City Museum Society, a nonprofit organization that preserves and promotes Ybor City’s cultural heritage and supports the Ybor City Museum State Park.

This past Saturday we expanded on our wonderful partnership with the The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature by attending their Baseball Days at the Bishop celebrating baseball past and present! We set up one of our Rollin' Through History Mobile Museums and read the first book in our new book series, “A Place on the Bench: The Robin Fuson Story.” We had a wonderful time and cannot wait to see how this friendship grows!

This last Friday we were invited to join the at their Annual Older Americans Month Celebration. The love for the game of baseball is one that is passed down through generations. Hearing some of their stories was an amazing moment. Some of our favorite events every year are with the Tampa Housing Authority and we look forward to partnering with again in the future.

We are so pleased to announce that the first book in our new children’s series premiered last Tuesday! “A Seat On the Bench: The Robin Fuson Story”, was released with the Honorable Robin Fuson, Josh Weaver (author), and Katelynn Meggison (illustrator) signing copies of the book.

Our new series will be about the players, coaches, and baseball legends who were born, raised, or spent their careers in Tampa. The stories will help our younger generation connect to the community with inspirational stories about perseverance, resilience, working hard, following your dreams, teamwork, and more.

We are grateful to the Honorable Robin Fuson for being our first story to tell, and look forward to the next one.
