🎨 Meet the Artist Behind Los Universitarios Mural🎨
⭐ Ruben Moreno⭐

Ruben is a multi-disciplinary Chicano artist born and raised in South Tucson, Arizona. His work focuses on 2D painting and drawing and examines themes of human rights, political plights, and his own Mexican and indigenous heritage. Professionally, Ruben has been a career fabricator/ Installer and currently works as the senior exhibit preparator with the Arizona State Museum.

After a couple years of restoration work, the Sosa-Carrillo Fremont House Museum will officially reopen on June 1st with summer hours! ✨🤩

Built around 1878, this historic adobe home is one of only a few buildings saved from Tucson’s urban renewal era and has long been an important part of downtown Tucson history.

Interested in volunteering? The museum is currently looking for docent volunteers and will be hosting upcoming training sessions:
• May 28 10am - 3pm
• May 30 1 pm to 4 pm
• June 6 1 pm to 4 pm
• June 11 10am - 3pm

We are happy that the Saguaro National Park initiative, Parks for All, will be shared at the Sosa-Carrillo House this Friday!

Saguaro National Park is hosting a breakfast and briefing on the ist phase of the Parks For All initiative, highlighting trail access improvements and outdoor opportunities for visitors of all abilities. This initiative aims to create more inclusive and accessible public outdoor spaces, specifically catering to people with alternative mobility needs while also fostering awareness for other underrepresented communities.

WOW! It's been a month since Los Descendientes del Presidio de Tucson re-opened the Sosa-Carrillo House to the community! The amazing Chris Summit captured these moments from the re-opening.

Thank you to all the speakers, Los Descendientes members, community, family with memories of the house and neighborhood, and supporters of our work for coming out. A special thank you to Brandon Varela, Director of the Old Pascua Museum & Yaqui Culture Center for the permanent exhibit on the San Ignacio Old Pascua and Ruben Urrea Moreno for curating a 26-year span of his work as a Chicano artist from South Tucson, AZ.

We will be open starting Tuesday, June 2 from 9am-2pm.
June 2026-August 30, 2026 our summer hours will be:
Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays 9am-2pm.
$5pm suggested donation, FREE for members.
