The Douglas County Museum is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that is operated by a full-time Director and volunteers. The museum features exhibits about a wide range of topics pertinent to the history of Douglas County and East Central Illinois. Throughout the year, the museum staff also offers a wide range of special events and programs.

Last night we hosted the Douglas County Annual Meeting—thank you to everyone who joined us!

The Douglas County Museum will be operating under temporary hours from March 16, 2026 - March 23, 2026.

During this time, the museum will be open:
Monday, 3/16: 10AM-4PM
Tuesday, 3/17: 10AM-4PM
Wednesday, 3/18: CLOSED
Thursday, 3/19: 10AM-4PM
Friday, 3/20: 10AM-4PM
Saturday, 3/21: 10AM-2PM
Monday, 3/23: CLOSED

Join us this Saturday as we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a colorful and festive craft! We’ll be making a paper chain rainbow complete with a pot of gold — the perfect decoration to brighten up your home and bring a little extra luck your way.

This craft is fun for all ages and only $1 to participate, with proceeds helping us continue to offer creative Saturday activities at the museum.

🌈 Saturday Craft: Follow the Rainbow! 🍀

Join us at the Museum for our next Saturday Craft as we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day! Next Saturday, March 7th, we’ll be creating colorful paper chain rainbows with a shiny pot of gold at the end - a fun and festive decoration just in time for the holiday.

St. Patrick’s Day has been celebrated for centuries in honor of Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. Today, the holiday is filled with cheerful traditions like wearing green, spotting shamrocks, and of course - searching for that lucky pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! 🌈✨

📅 Join us this Saturday
💵 Cost: $1 per participant with all supplies included (helps us fund future Saturday crafts!)
👨‍👩‍👧 All ages welcome

Featuring prints and photos from the Tuscola Journal from 1950 through the early 1960s—a time when the local newspaper was the heartbeat of the community. From milestones and celebrations to everyday moments, the Journal captured the stories that connected neighbors and preserved local history.

✨ Something NEW is blooming at the museum this year! ✨

We’re excited to introduce Saturday Crafts on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays that we’re open! 🎨✂️

💖 This Saturday’s craft is Valentine’s Day-themed!
Join us as we make paper flower bouquets, perfect for sharing with someone special (or keeping for yourself 💐). While crafting, you’ll also get to explore fun and fascinating facts about the history of Valentine’s Day- so it’s creativity and a little history rolled into one!

We hope you’ll stop by, get crafty, and help us kick off this new tradition at the museum. See you Saturday!

Each craft session is just $1 per person to participate. That small fee helps us fund supplies and plan even more fun craft activities for future Saturdays- thank you for supporting our programs!

Our curious elf is back once more, wandering the museum from floor to floor. Today he climbs down the military hall, tip-toeing past uniforms, helmets, and gear from days long gone. He even spots shiny bullets behind the glass, his eyes wide with wonder at the stories they hold.

So if you stroll through and take a look around, keep watch for tiny footprints on the ground. You never know where our elf might be—exploring history with a dash of Christmas glee!
