Many are already gone forever and many more are likely only survive in photographs as a quick snapshot of a unit's identity, and a monument to a life changing experience for those that served. Stencil art pays tribute to fallen Australian digger Lieutenant Marcus Case on a bunker at Kandahar air base in Afghanistan.

'They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:

At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.'

Lt Case was killed in a CH-47D Chinook helicopter crash in southern Afghanistan on May 30, 2011.

T-wall memorial at FOB Warrior- Kirkuk Regional Air Base (KRAB), Iraq 2010 created in the style of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

Painted by Service Members, for Servicemembers to honor the 4411 US Military Servicemembers killed in Operation Iraq Freedom (2003-2010). A final T-wall was maintained to memorialize those killed during Operation New Dawn (67 total) until Camp Warrior was closed in 2011.

Memorial graffiti on a wall at Camp Redemption- Abu Ghraib, Iraq 2005 created by the comrades of SPC Brandon Titus and PFC Henry Risner of 3rd Platoon, Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 10th Mountain Division who were killed in action on August 17th and 18th 2004 near Baghdad.
