VENICE—𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗱 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 by Lorna SIMPSON is at@palazzo_grassi, and can be seen UNTIL 22 NOV.
Curated by Emma Lavigne in dialogue with the artist, this is the most extensive European overview to date of Simpson's painting from the past decade—around fifty works spanning painting, collage, video and sculpture, staged across the brick halls of Punta della Dogana. Dense compositions traversed by enigmatic figures evoke uprisings and repression, while a series of nocturnal blue paintings, reconstructed from Arctic expedition archives, turns ice, water and dust into metaphors of transformation and erasure. The exhibition builds on "Source Notes," first shown at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2025.
