A fantastic opening day for the 'Blood, Sweat, and Tears' exhibition.

Our brave Trustee, James, got thoroughly fed on by a leech in front of a very curious audience. Thank you to all who visited.
The next (and last!) leech feeding demonstration will take place this Saturday 27 June at 2pm in the museum.
Don't miss out! 🩸

🚨NEXT EXHIBITION: June 20 - 27, 12pm - 4pm.
No booking required. Free entry. Donations always welcome.

Look forward to facts, unbelievable stories, amazing objects and live leeches.

But that's not all, a brave BMM Trustee, James Hunt, will be feeding a leech with his own blood to demonstrate how and why these creatures are used.
This will take place Sat 20th and Sat 27th at 2pm in the museum.
A medicinal leech typically takes up to an hour to feed, as such the demonstration will last until the leech has had its fill.
Not for the faint hearted!

Bloodletting is one of the oldest medical practices in the world. With recorded evidence stretching as far back as Ancient Egypt and likely being practiced long before that, it was not until the early 19th century when physicians began questioning its efficacy.

Did it really help? Or was it simply making the patient worse?
It was during this period when physicians began to adopt the observational approach to medicine we know today. Watching and recording how this ancient practice affected their patient.
It was this simple change of putting the patient first that debunked bloodletting as a cure-all treatment and made way for helpful, proven treatments to be developed.
Don't miss our bloodletting exhibition June 20 - 27, 12pm-4pm. Free entry.

Look forward to fascinating facts, unbelievable stories, amazing objects and leeches.

But that's not all...a brave BMM Trustee, James Hunt, will be performing two separate live leech feedings on himself to demonstrate how and why they are used. These will take place on Sat 20th and Sat 27th, at 2pm in the museum.
A leech typically takes up to an hour to feed, as such the demonstration will last until the leech has had its fill.
