📸 May Half Term: Kids' Nature Photography Competition 🌿

Get out into Auckland Palace grounds, gardens and Deer Park this half term as everything bursts into life.

From the Walled Garden and Faith Garden to the Wilderness and Paradise Gardens, there's plenty to explore, discover and photograph.

Age groups:
🐞 Under 7s
🌿 7 to 11
🌳 12 to 16

📢🚨Bookings are now open to visit the unique Railway 200 touring exhibition train, Inspiration, at Stanhope Station.
Inspiration Train from 9th – 14th June, running daily 9:30am – 4:30pm.

Daily schedule:
🔴 10:00am – 12:00pm: School visits
🟡 12:00pm – 4:00pm: General public admission

🟡 The train will visit 60 locations in Britain over a year.

The mystery continues… 👀

Despite recently featuring on BBC Look North, the identity of the unknown man in Tom McGuinness’ 1963 charcoal portrait remains a mystery.

The drawing, currently on display at the Mining Art Gallery as part of Tom McGuinness: Out of the Darkness, was initially believed to depict a family member, but that theory has since been ruled out.

Now we’re still appealing for help from the public. Do you recognise him? Could he be someone connected to County Durham’s mining communities?

Join knowledgeable volunteers for a guided 'walk and talk' through the gardens while discovering the actual story behind them.

🕰 Tours start from the Clock Tower

🗓️ Wed 1:30pm–2.30pm & Sat 1pm-2pm & 2.15pm-3.15pm for all gardens

Please note: this tour includes steps and is not suitable for wheelchair users. Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome. The tour goes ahead in all weather, so please wear suitable footwear and outdoor clothing. Weekly garden tours will continue throughout the season.

💙 Creating memories together on the Weardale Railway 🚂
As part of National Dementia Week, we were honoured to host a special heritage rail experience for people living with dementia and their carers alongside the Alzheimer's Society.

The journey through Weardale from Stanhope to Bishop Auckland included beautiful countryside views, music from a local choir, afternoon tea and activities designed to spark memories and connection 🎶

Thank you to everyone who joined us and to our dedicated volunteers who helped make the experience so special 💙
