๐Ÿด A quiet afternoon in the woods...

Painted in 1928 by Arthur John Elsley, Quiet Afternoon is one of the animal-filled treasures waiting to be discovered in Hop! Skip! Jump! at Hove Museum. Nearly 100 years later, its adorable little foal continues to capture visitors' hearts.

Meet curious ponies, playful pets and wild creatures from Brighton & Hove Museums' fine art collection, then hop like a bunny, meow like a cat, and help the animals find their way home in this family-friendly exhibition.

๐ŸŒŠ A day at the seaside, Edwardian style...

This wonderful photograph, taken between 1900 and 1910, captures an Edwardian family enjoying a day on Brighton beach. Two women, three girls and a young boy are gathered at the end of a groyne, while the boy paddles in the sea.

More than 100 years later, some things haven't changed all that much. Families still flock to Brighton to enjoy the seaside, build memories and make the most of a sunny day by the water. โ˜€๏ธ

๐Ÿ“ท Next time you snap a photo on Brighton beach, spare a thought for the photographer who captured this scene over 100 years ago with a camera almost as large as some of the children in the picture!

โ€œIf you look carefullyโ€ฆ you can still see the dragon.โ€ ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‰
We filmed with Dr. Alexandra Loske Alexandra Loske as she showed us the original place of this incredible dragon, which once hung from the ceiling holding a gigantic lantern.
Created around 1815 by Frederick Crace or Robert Jones, this silvered and painted dragon was part of an earlier decorative scheme at the Pavilion and its shadow still remains above visitorsโ€™ heads todayโ€ฆ if you know where to look. ๐Ÿ‘€
A contemporary writer described it as:
โ€œa flying dragon, of very large dimensionsโ€ holding โ€œa magnificent lantern of stupendous sizeโ€.
Now you can see the dragon up close in our DRAGONS exhibition at the Royal Pavilion.
Once you start spotting dragons hereโ€ฆ you realise theyโ€™ve been hiding everywhere all along. ๐Ÿฒ
