Happy 100th birthday to Sir David Attenborough! 🙌

What a truly brilliant and curious human; a lifelong champion for wildlife, conservation and education who has inspired millions of people to feel more connected to the wonders of the natural world. 🌏

We popped back into the archives as in 2016, we were so very lucky to welcome him to film in our Planetarium for 'David Attenborough's Natural Curiosities'.

The team were filming a piece about how dung beetles use the night sky to navigate. It involved moving the night sky (programmed to show the 18 brightest stars in the South African night sky in February) around; and each time she moved the sky, the beetles would shift position to communicate where the food source was! 🪲 ⭐

Sir David was also kind enough to do a ‘meet and greet’ with some of our staff after filming, a truly special and wonderful moment to be part of.

Thank you, Sir David, for inspiring generations to value and protect the world around us.

📣 Heads up for runners (and cheerers)! 🏃🎉

This Sunday 10 May, the Great Bristol Run is taking over the city with a 10k and half marathon, so getting around may be a tad trickier than usual.

Expect a busy, buzzy Bristol and road closures throughout the day. The race finishes right next to us, so Anchor Road (the main road to get to us by car) will be closed from early hours of the morning.

We’re open 10–5 as normal, and with the finish line right outside our door, we’re the perfect pit stop if you’re supporting friends or family.

If you’re planning a visit, then do check out greatrun.org/events/great-bristol-run/ for all of the info.

Good luck to everyone taking part – we’ll be cheering you on! 🎽👏

Fancy some Qi Gong to set your day up to an excellent start? 🤸🏼‍♀️

We’re screening a 15 min practise on our Big Screen three times a day as part of the DIASPORA! festival - at 7am, 8am and 9am each day between 1-8 May 2026.

Why not pop by to Millennium Square and join in? It could be extra fun in a suit if you do need to get to work straight after. 🕺🏽

DIASPORA! is a multi-artform festival celebrating cultural diversity through the arts. Presented by the Diverse Artists Network, the festival champions artists whose voices are often underrepresented, while reflecting the lived experiences and cultural heritage of communities across Bristol and the South West.

Check out their programme for heaps of bold, joyful and thought-provoking creativity.
