Flooding the Moat 14x18ins - Nicholas St John Rosse.
Nicholas comes from a traditional background of realism and sound draughtsmanship, but he also believes in the expressive use of paint. He marries these three qualities in his paintings. His paintings are concerned mostly with the human figure and how it relates to its immediate surroundings. Portrait painting has featured throughout his career and he has an abiding interest in the human face and the way it appears in figure compositions. His current work applies to the seashore and the visual tactile properties of sand, rock, water and light.

Ebb and Flow 50x76cm - Phil Parry.
After studying at Newport and Cardiff colleges of Art during the seventies Phil has exhibited widely in Wales and England. He now concentrates his attention on the coast of South and West Wales. Topographical references in his paintings are often quite incidental to the constant changing colour and light reflected in the sea, sand and sky. His paintings often convey a still, quiet poetic mood and atmosphere.

Ar Lan y Mor- Chasing Sunbeams by Colin J Davies.
After spending thirty years in education Colin traded his life as a headteacher to fulfil his lifelong dream to be a full time painter. He is inspired by the beautiful coastline and mountains surrounding his home, and his work often depicts the power and vitality of the ocean at the Gower Peninsula, and Bannau Brycheiniog. He has a skillful use of colour and textural contrast creates the mood, often providing an impression of movement.

Boathouse Laughrne 24 x 41cm
Rhona Tooze is exhibiting her amazing work in the medium of the ancient art of Batik, a process involving wax resist dying. Rhona constantly takes inspiration from the beautiful beaches and surroundings of the GOWER Peninsula, and she paints with hot wax and cold dyes. The work is extremely impressive and we are pleased that she will be at the gallery during the Roath Weekend on May 17th to explain the process.

Morning Sea Breeze 100x100cm
We have a selection of new work from Lara Smith, exhibiting now in our latest show “Beside the Sea”. Lara works mainly in oil with palette knife, and her artwork is bold and expressive, capturing the atmosphere of the subject. Lara takes her inspiration from the Welsh and Cornish landscapes, and she loves to work ‘en plein air’ where she can immerse herself into her surroundings to capture the atmosphere in her paintings.
