Carew Cheriton Control Tower

Carew Cheriton Control Tower Take a trip back in time and experience the Control Tower as it would have been during the war years. A tourist attraction offering a wartime experience.

In addition we have also reconstructed a Stanton Air Raid Shelter and have now collected a huge range of wartime exhibits in our museum. The Carew Cheriton Control Tower Group was formed in the spring of 2000 after the landowner approached the Carew Historical Society with the offer of the building on a long-term lease. If this offer had not been taken up this unique wartime structure would have b

een demolished and lost to future generations

The new group was formed from members of the historical society and other interested people who were keen to see this building on the dissused former R.A.F Carew Cheriton airfield restored to its origional state. The group consists of 35 members ranging in age from 13 to 80 and covers a variety of trades, which have been very beneficial in the progress of the restoration project. The project is based on achieving three main aims:

A lasting memorial to all who served on the airfield through two world wars. And to the airmen who main the supreme sacrifice during those years. A structure for educational use focused on school and group visits who are studying this period of modern day history. This community project has been supported by main local businesses, Pembroke County Council, The Welsh Office and PLANED and to them we are very apperciative. Group members normally meet on a Monday evenings and on Saturday mornings and these meetings take the form of working parties. Our thanks must also go to the local land owners - Mr and Mrs Phil Davies of Sealand Ltd. who have been very supportive of this community project and have set in place a 99 year lease at a peppercorn rent of Β£5.00 per annum. All new members are welcome who are interested in this period of history and are keen to be involved in this restoration project.
