I always stress to my students the importance , first and foremost of value studies , as the practice was ingrained into me from my tutors ! To access the language of painting thoroughly do not rely on just line and then colouring in ! Take a good look at what can be achieved by tonal displacements .. simplicity, clarity and dynamics.. value structures in a painting can transform its message .. learn to love tonality before colour and practice thumbnail value studies before embarking on major works🙏thanks for listening
