⛵Our new display celebrating the extraordinary life of Dr Gerry Hughes is now open!

From a young boy who struggled with basic literacy to becoming the first Deaf sailor to solo circumnavigate the globe, A Quest and a Legacy explores Dr Hughes’ journey as a teacher, pioneering sailor and advocate for the Deaf community.

The display also explores the role that education, British Sign Language (BSL), family support and self-belief played in shaping his life.

The display has been created by and for Deaf people, with Dr Hughes working alongside members of the community to shape its content. All interpretation is available in BSL through screens, with text captions making the display accessible to hearing visitors too.

A Quest and a Legacy is now open on the first floor of Riverside Museum and is free to enter.

We are pleased to welcome Souhrudam to Riverside Museum, with a vibrant cultural heritage performance showcasing a traditional dance form known as Thiruvathira, native to the southern state of India, Kerala.

This performance will take place indoors, on the ground floor on Saturday 3rd October from 3.30pm

We are looking for all crafty people, makers, and bakers to apply for a stall.

Saturday 28th November & Sunday 29th November.

Priced at £50 per day. Send an email to [email protected] for more information and for an application form! The application deadline is Friday 16th October, and you will hear back from us by Friday 23rd October about whether or not you have secured a place at the market.
