YOU’RE INVITED ✉️ THE MARVEL FROM MARPLE EXHIBITION LAUNCH, 18TH JUNE at stockr__m

Join us for the launch of The Marvel from Marple, an exhibition celebrating the life and work of Marple‑born artist Alan Boyson.

From Stockport to the nation ⭐ the exhibition explores Boyson’s influential contributions to Britain's post-war public art. Spanning sculptural concrete, ceramic and murals embedded across the country's civic spaces, for decades Boyson’s work has formed the backdrop to public life, including right here in his hometown, where his iconic 1965 geometric screens surround Stockport’s Merseyway Shopping Centre.

Led by artist Esther Johnson, The Marvel from Marple brings together original artworks by Boyson, photographs, alongside a multi‑screen film installation reflecting on public art, place and identity.

PLUS to help us celebrate in style, we’ll be joined by another ‘Marvel from Marple’, DJ Andy Votel 🎧

📅 THURS 18TH JUNE
🕔 5PM - 7PM

Here’s a wee pot which I thought was very successful. An elliptical Forest bowl made from Vulcan Black clay. Not the best image as I didn’t have the lighting at CAL right. It was getting lots of love and I couldn’t understand why no one was buying it. Eventually, someone came along who had been with me on the course at West Dean with Shozo Michikawa. That was the course that sent me on this particular path of making. I was delighted that she chose to buy this pot. It felt like the cycle returning to its beginning.

I’ve had some restful days since returning from Ceramic Art London. I have wanted, for so long, a period of time without the pressure of deadlines. But now I don’t know what to do with myself – probably a bit more gardening.
There’s always a moment at this time of year, late of an evening, when I realise at 10 pm that it’s still daylight. It comes around quickly after a long winter and it’s always only a day or two before the midgies hatch. Or as it turns out this year when the weather resumes normal service & is back to windy and wet - at least it’s delaying the midgies!

At some point, I will resume Pottery posts with, if not exactly renewed enthusiasm, then a bit more regularity. I hope you will be able to battle your way through all the ads and un asked for reels to get to the pots.

We had a great time yesterday in the Alpine Pots Workshop! Wonderful conversation and amazing results- each individual pot was as unique as the person that had made it! 🫶🏽
